Hello to all. I have been lurking on the forums and following Bob's blog for a while now. I am a wannabe R. V. dweller/van dweller. I currently work a low paying job and I'm trying to cut down the expenses. I was unemployed for 5mo and lost my apartment as well as my vehicle. I am taking the bus everywhere and l long for the mobile lifestyle. My biggest obstacle is a monthly income. so hello to all. Your comments, discussions, blogs are helping me thru a hard time. Its nice to know that my dreams arent totally crazy-I would follow them anyway.

Hi Denise, welcome to the forum. lots of dreamers, vandwellers and armchair travelers here, and everything in between!

Welcome Denise! so many people here and at other simular sites have been where you are!
Have you tried a buy here pay here car lot to get a vehicle. You can start out being a van dweller in just about anything on wheels! Then as time goes by you can get something different. I heard of a guy that van dwells in a VW bug! (And I thought I was living tiny in my PT Cruiser! LOL). And there are those, of course who van dwell on motorcycles! and those who have no wheels but back pack it every where! So many wonderful stories out there and in my opinion all of them are success stories!

Welcome from New Mexico Denise...good to have you with us...
Bri

Welcome Welcome!

I wish you success in getting started! I'm fairly new myself, just a few months in now! I'm in a van, I like it!

With Love,
Tara

Hello Denise. the life you want is possible.

Almost any vehicle will do as they say on here. Mine isn't perfect either.
It's just a bed I can sleep in right now... and at the back of my van is literally just the same bed I had in all my old apartments... just a futon and my clothes hanging on a shower curtain strapped to the seatbelt buckles. It's very basic and I have to make do with taking my baths elsewhere (in my case, I take discreet baths in my office toilet during off hours--it's not ideal, but it will do for now). I eat my foods outside my vehicle as I have no kitchen. It is my dream to have a kitchen one day, but for now this is enough.

Always remember that whatever living condition you are in isn't permanent. Everything is temporary. With that frame of mind, I am cheered onwards to completing my goal of having a livable house on wheels. I got the bed and closet part... all I need is the toilet, kitchen and power supply for my gadgets.

It'll happen one day for you too.
Good luck!
WanderingRain, U have such a great, inspirational, positive attitude for someone embracing what I consider to be extreme minimalism! It makes me realize how much I have to be thankful for, living in an actual camper with full facilities!

I praise & thank the Lord for providing me with this thing after I was forced to give up my home.

Denise, Glad you found us. I find alot of inspiration from the great folks here. I am sorry about you losing everything like that, I unfortunately know how you feel. I have lost my home along with everything to a flash flood and nearly my life. Just so you know the saying turn around don't drown is so true, the water really did try to take away the truck I was trying to escape in. But the thing is I survived along with my children and thanks to alot of loving people I was given the opportunity to live in an apartment and given by the grace of god everything we needed to survive. Yes we struggled and 20 years later we have alot of fond memories of how much closer we became during our struggles. I say to this day that I wouldn't go back and change any thing I have done or been through because it is what has made me who I am. I hope you can conquer your battles and enjoy some comforts of life soon. Until then we will be here to lift you up as often as possible.

SirJoey, thanks! You are indeed lucky. You guys are my inspiration whenever I go online here and look at your setups. I think to myself one day I will have the full thing. But halfway there isn't bad. Yeah, it's very basic. But I feel like a giddy kid again camping in his tent. It keeps me young and happy this knowledge that I am working towards something even better.
