Hello The Camp

I am another one of those long time lurkers on this forum. It has been very informative and inspirational to read.
I hope to join the great masses who travel about this great country of ours as full timer soon.  Alas, I still have enough commitments with family that I will not be able to take off full time for another 7 years.

I have been camping since before I was born. I have done it all from bedroll to Luxury RV. Several mission trips into Mexico where I cooked for large groups over campfire and Coleman stove. I have always felt more at home in the woods than in any city I have been in.

In the meanwhile I will hope and dream and plan. 
Soon I will get a 6x12 Cargo trailer to start my adventure. I have the advantage to continue my work as long as I have internet. So weekend and we long trips could be in my future.

I Have several questions but will save them for the appropriate forums to post.

Thanks to all of you for the information, instruction and pictures of what you have done.

Kind of how I got the name.  Working a fund raiser for the local Boy Scout Troop at a Historical Reenactment.  We made the Frybread fresh and fried it up in large (3'x3') pans with oil over a wood fire.  We ran ourselves silly trying to keep up with demand.  It has been a great fund raiser for that troop ever since.

If you can work on the road from your rig and take weekends and longer day trips you may be closer than you think to some travels.  I understand that you have family and respect that and whatever it takes to meet those obligations.  

I'd invite you to look at my websites below.  The first is my take on a Van with a Cargo Trailer where the
trailer is a utility mechanism to support the Van Life & travel.    The second is a Portal of handy stuff to know about to plan with or better enable your traveling while on the road. 

I built those with the thought in mind that it would be my "kit" when I go full time.   The specialized Vehicles for the type of travel I intend to pursue and the internet resources to have as a traveling aid & resource.   Hopefully it would allow any less experienced traveler to proceed with more self confidence and assurance that they would have quality info available to them 24/7.    When I first started at this I had my Rand McNally and a CB radio.  And of course Law Enforcement Officers (LEO's) who weren't sympathetic to young traveling people.

My cargo van is the best investment I ever made.  I was loosing a lot of money on storage fees, and just decided, if it wouldn't fit in the trailer, I could not keep it.  I have never regretted the decision.  Eventually, I will downsize enough, I could actually use the trailer for living space (I have 50 years worth of genealogy to get rid of first).

Go for it.  Welcome to the tribe.

Swankiewheels, I know how that goes. I can trace my family back into the 1500's and at one time it was a passion.  Now I have all of that and...
My Wife and I have been trying to declutter for a while now.  It is slow going but we are getting better. When you have a large house it is easy to keep way too much stuff.  And now I have a second house that I am trying to clean up, clear out and get on the market.
My wife told me that if it no longer brings you joy, GET RID OF IT!    She is a very wise lady. 

So those are the first steps into getting away from it all. Get rid of junk. Get away from the things that are no longer fun. Start living. Time to go an Rediscover who I am and what make me happy.

It is not about the Destination, it's about the Journey.

There may be more of us Ex LEO here than is known, Cammalu. I gave it my best for a decade and moved on.

I ate Fry Bread as a kid. My Mother made it fairly often. She was an awesome cook.
