Hello my name is Kelly. I live an hour outside of Chicago. We will be moving our MH to a campground in August and living in it for one year until my partner retires in 2013. I need any advice on staying parked with slides out for that long. Should the engine be started ever so often? Slides pulled in? Winterizing for winter? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks everyone.
Kelly
Welcome Kelly, Hopefully someone with specific knowledge about RVs will respond with info about what you ask
.
I don't know much about rvs with slides but as an old mechanic will say that yes, start your rig and let it run till good a warm every week at least maybe every few days even....be sure to let it run long enough for the system to heat up a bit and dry out the condensation in the exhaust system...just a short little start and run will create too much condensation and rust through your exhaust system.

As far as running the slides in and out every once in a while...I would say yes to that too...anything mechanical is better maintained with some use than just sitting...

Winterizing is a tougher question and I would see what other folks who live in an RV in the harsh winters where you live are doing to theirs.

And once your partner is retired get the heck south in the winters...

Cheers,
Bri
Bri,
You can bet your bottom dollar that we are getting the heck out of here ASAP! Onto warmer weather is the best thing and we can't wait!
Thank you.
Kelly
Hi Kelly, welcome to the site. I don't think any info from my 69 Shasta 14' trailer will apply to a MH with slides, so I'll let others answer that! Getting out of winter is one I understand though! Left upstate by and moved to Alabama last year. Much nicer mowing your yard the day after new years as opposed to plowing your driveway....
