Welcome to the CRVL forums Dave! Smaller is usually better for a traveling life so chose the smallest vehicle that works for you. Lots of people will think a 22' class C is too big. :-D

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips, Tricks and Rules" post lists some helpful information to get you started. We look forward to hearing more from you.

Good things come in all sizes.

Being happy with what you've got is a blessing.

If you're happy, you don't need to knock others.

And if you need to spend your time knocking others, you're not happy.

That's what I've learned in my 65 years on the planet, so far!

Good philosophy, Dire Wolfess!

Welcome to the forum CapeCodDave!

My choices were/are ... either an older RV or a newer high roof van with a warranty. Because I'm an older woman who has never taken the time to learn mechanical skills, I've decided the newer van with a warranty fits my needs. Also, I really am not a fan of RV interior cabinetry for the most part. I think I'd like to design/make/create my own interior, not using anyone else's ideas and plans. I have that creative inclination, and am more willing to learn woodworking skills than I am, mechanical skills. Also, I've heard so often on this forum that older RVs can be rife with problems. Even newer ones. Anyhow, we all make our vehicle choices and then have to live with them, and I'm sure there's pros and cons to all of them.

I've also been amazed at some of the huge RVs. I see them on the "Going RV" type TV shows. It seems like people want to take a one bedroom apartment along with them. Well, that's out of my price range, so not a consideration. My van will be my little bedroom with an ensuite and the world will be my living room and I'll be happy enough with that.

I moved from a van to a 27 ft 5th wheel that has a bedroom and bath with enclosed shower in the overhang, and a living room/kitchen in the main part. I'm overwhelmed with the size on one hand, and ecstatic with the living space on the other. Hauling it is terrifying. It's just too huge! I miss being able to just pull into any dirt road I see and go exploring, and if I find a beautiful spot, just camp there. My arthritic body loooooves being able to stretch out and even dance! I go round and round through "I'm gonna sell this hulk and get a Casita!" And "Home sweet home!" [emoji57]

I have converted cargo van that pulls my 21' trailer. I love the trailer until I have to deal with finding a place for the nights. When in the van, I can go anywhere. Right now I'm at a rest stop in FL with both. If I were traveling just with the van, I wouldn't be hearing the constant rumble of semis idling.

Everything is a trade-off.
