I am trying out candle heat tonight just because I'm curious and in need of some tropical good smells.

It would be nice to run into a fellow van dweller. Someone that actually gets it and won't pass judgment.

That's a great idea. I did try burning candles, but the lighting was inadequate. I'm not one to give up easy though!
Hey guys,

I'd be concerned about carbon monoxide if you have enough combustion to cook or heat your van. The volume of air in your van could be quickly converted if you're burning 3k,6k or 9k BTU's. Air in take and exhaust are important. I'd also recommend everyone who's using any combustion in their van to get a carbon monoxide detector at a hardware/home improvement store.

Elseanno

I know from previous experience that my 30,000 BTU/HR stove will run out of oxygen long before I do. Open combustion does not produce carbon monoxide, just carbon dioxide.

I think he means the sticks and bricks people in general all pass judgement on us, similar types, truck drivers who live in their rigs, etc.

My apologies. I was unclear. You don't need to lose enough oxygen to die in order for carbon monoxide to kill you. Your hemoglobin has a higher affinity for CO than for O2. Less than 1000ppm can cause you to have serious health problems, possibly causing death.

Not trying to tell people what to do, just don't want to read about anybody in the news paper.

Don't take my word for it. Read this, or Google carbon monoxide poisoning.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_monoxide_poisoning

Elseanno
