I'm done at my desk on May 8th, hope to never set foot behind one again!

Looking at standing up end of March 2015. Begin van dwelling end of June.

I'll be standing up and walking away from my desk permanently on April 10th.  They won't let me hurl my ID across the parking lot, however, they insist I have to turn it in to get my pension.

Regards
John

HA!!! nope, not legal, no way, not going to buy it! they can not keep your pension if you "lost" your ID on the way to work!
no way!
I know from my previous work when some one left you could not hold anything back that was theres becaue they did not return something.

Tell them I said you could keep it!

I'm still debating the job part. It's the only part of this whole thing I'm struggling with.

I have a job that I can do anywhere and don't work more than a few hours a week but still can make good money if only I applied myself more. I like seeing the bank balance grow... :)

OTOH, I seem to suffer incredibly from 'Intention Deficit Disorder' -... :D I knew I had it but finally found a name for it this weekend...so grateful to have it defined for me!!

The concept of being fully retired and not being responsible for producing results sounds wonderful.

I already know that come fall I'm outta here in this S&B, have a legal address already lined up so that the governments, bank and insurance companies are kept happy and I've got a start to a travel plan all lined up.

Now if spring would only get here so I could start the conversion of the van, I'd be a real happy camper.

I've been thinking about doing this for awhile now! But don't have an alternate income to live off of. Didn't get military retirement like wanted to, no VA disability and can't get social security for another 7 years. So I will have to work part time or work full time and save then live off that until I have to work and save again. Anyway I work 60 or more hours a week so a 40 hour a week job would seem like a part time job. From what I have learned here and on many other web sites about living cheap I could make that go a long way!

You can always hurl the ID across the parking lot, let out a huge whoop, take a deep breath, enjoy the moment, then walk over, pick the thing up, and go turn it in.

In my department they long ignored us few in the mainframe team. I also handled anything "old technology", property inventory, job and program documentation.... basically all those things nobody else wanted to do. Some of my small mainframe applications are used to create important reports and files used by the department head. But NOBODY even knows what application does it. Hehehe.....
A couple days before I bailed out they suddenly came to my cubical worridd, asking what all I did, and who knew how to do it all. I had already sent in an itemized report of my applications, jobs, programs, etc. And a list of all my documentation for it all.
Talking laterwith friends still there, I see that my expectations of trouble are happening. My two close co-workers are close to retiring too. When that happens the bottom will drop out. They brought it on themselves.

Naw Grant, I have a better idea. Go to Goodwill or something and buy a cheap fax machine (or any office product, ha!) and take it out in the field with a baseball bat paying homage to Office Space. That would be so cathartic. That machine would represent all the ******** and stress that you put up with so many years.

You would have to scream, "PC Load Letter!" over and over again. :D

Here we just take a problem machine to the local outdoor shooting range for some quality 'stress reduction' time with the caliber of choice!

Of course cleanup afterwards is mandatory!
