I fully intend to have a solar set up on the Aliner/Safari.  Thanks to GotSmart, Thanks x3 to you John, I have the list of things I need for a small portable set up to run a fan and things now while I work in the storage unit.  I'm hoping to save as many $$$ as I can to use for the "big" solar install.

At harbor freight they have a 13watt briefcase with 4 different power charging cords and at the flip of a switch I can plug in a regular 110 fan or other appliance.  I think that means it has a converter or inverter built in,  I'm still confused over which is what?    It is also supposed to charge a larger battery and has the cable with battery clamps included.  It is $80 and tomorrow I can use a 25% off coupon.

Yall's input and suggestions are needed/welcome.  If Renogy has something similar I'd like to know.   This is hopefuly a quick fix as it's hot in those storage units.

If you mean this unit:

I'm sorry, I don't see anything in there about powering any 110 volt ac stuff.  You won't be able to run a household fan off of it, unless you buy a separate inverter somewhere, and even then I question whether a 13 watt unit could run it.

13 watts is real small it's a battery maintainer not a charger. I have a 15 watt I use as a maintainer, it works good for that. highdesertranger

Pass , like HDR said just a maintainer for an already charged battery.

Thanks Guys.  OP I had used the link you posted and it's the same one.  Called their 800 customer service line....what a joke.  I called the new HF store here and supervisor that helped me said the ones on the shelf now have only been out 2 wks and it will run a 110 fan.  Also will charge large battery.  This is probably one of those items with a restocking fee too.  Guess I'll just sweat while I work or go back in my apt. {prison} and ponder why I thought I could actually do everything needed to get mobile even PT.

Thanks everyone.

  • Comes with male and female cigarette lighter adapters, battery terminal clamps, 12VDC outlet, and battery shoe for cordless tools

Nothing about 120 volt.

The only way that would do any good, is to hook it up to your vehicle battery, also buy an inverter to plug in a small household fan.  It would be touch and go a if it would be able to keep up with keeping your battery charged.

Renogy sells a similar 10W unit, that is marketed as a phone charger.  Soooo you see why we say not a wise investment. By the time you have something that might work, there will be a minimum of $100 spent.  ( I refuse to say invested.)

:)  Thanks John,  I know you guys are right so I'm gonna pass on this at HF.

If I had the time, money and energy to waste I'd buy one just so I could go back and raise Hell when it doesn't perform as I was told it would.
:D Well I don't have TV and I quit drinking beer [mostly] and shootin' pool.
I gotta have some entertainment every once in a while.  :D

How about spending the money on a 12 volt fan you plug in the ciggy outlet ?

Are you able to park "close" to the storage unit ?.....................You would have it for camping afterwards........................doug

Is there power in the storage?
If not those 12 volt dash fans the truckers use work pretty good.
There is also a fan at Wallyworld called an O2 that runs on D cells or a 12volt wall wart .
You can cut the wall wart off and wire to the truck batt.

TJB Enjoying that for entertainment , you ain't right .....which makes you perfect for this bunch cuz none of us are either !!!!!!

There is also a fan at Wallyworld called an O2 that runs on D cells or a 12volt wall wart .    DUH I NEVER EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT THE 12V PLUGS IN THE ALINER!!!  IF I HAVE Dcells in THE FAN to use it in a storage unit. When I'm through if I plug it into the Aliner will the D cells charge back up?  I do have shore power to the Aliner.  I've used the 12v lights and also plugged in my 110 or battery powered DVD player so Queenie and I can listen to some music while we work on the TT

You can cut the wall wart off and wire to the truck batt. WHATSA Wall Wart?......Sometimes I think you guys are messin' wid me  :)

Wall Wart =Power supply with a little box attached to the plug.
Line Lump = Power supply with the box between the wires that lead to the plug and the device.
Tech=The guy with his pockets full of wires and smells like solder !

No respect huh ? Rhonda Dangerfield !

Try a folding 100W suitcase solar... more money but guaranteed can run, actually, charge a decent 50-85 amp hour RV battery...

Search "folding solar panels" on Google, Amazon or here...
"Folding solar panel" on this forum alone has a whole page of threads...
