Three bolts of lightning and then marble size hail. So much for that "slight chance of rain" the weather woman said.

Just like lawyers, meteorologists are paid to lie :D

You said lightning and hail, no mention of rain. That sounds pretty slight to me. ;)

I was set to head toward Fort Worth (Lake Whitney) yesterday until the severe weather forecast came. Just heavy rain here, not a lot of wind, no tornadoes and none of the predicted hail. Was expecting a repeat of Thursday. Looks like a great day tomorrow though and through the week too.

I had a bad hail storm a week ago here in SC. Luckily, the van survived.

Speaking of hail.
Is there a way to have comprehensive coverage on solar panels? I don't think GEICO would pay for them, although to me they would be part of the vehicle... Do you guys have have separate insurance for the panels? Or does the vehicle with the solar panels on it have to be registered as an RV?

I have the comprehensive coverage on all vehicles, after my very first car in the US got flooded on the 3rd day after i bought it. But my van is not registered as an RV.

I find my Indian weather rock far more reliable.
Hope the hail didn't beat your vehicles up too badly.

I got about 10" of snow yesterday if that makes you feel any better. Nothing better than rolling into April expecting spring and getting snow!

I bet you do. I know coverage for motorcycles doesn't cover anything beyond what it left the factory with. My custom paint wasn't covered when I went down.

That's some BIG hail.  I'm planning on making a cover for my panels - just a rug with ropes or bungees on each corned that I can attach quickly at the first sign of hail.

Have you asked your insurance agent whether it would be covered, and, if not, could you buy some kind of "rider" to add them?

I wouldn't go to far into paying for insurance for my panels for two reasons. First they are so cheap to replace anymore that you could just save the payment for a while and have enough to buy a new set. Second, Denver has a chit load of solar where I use to live and the hail storm that got my trailer totaled did a lot of damage to houses, windows, fences, cars, roofs, etc. Not one panel was damaged by the storm.

On trying to put up covers to protect them. It's fine if you are expecting a storm and cover them before it gets there. Please don't put them on after the storm starts. Any hail that could possibly damage a panel could seriously injure or even kill you.

Been rumbling and threatening east of Dallas all morning. Tornado warnings to the south earlier.

I once was working on using a heavy duty tarp with pool noodles attached on the bottom to give it more height and bungee cords to throw over the top when it looked like hail was coming. Probably not so easy to store with mobile lifestyle though.

Even comprehensive insurance doesn't usually cover anything that didn't come from the factory. If you put a nice stereo in, it's not covered if it's stolen, fried by lightning, or the wires are chewed by rodents.

My motorcycle insurance through GEICO covered up to $2000 worth of accessories, so long as you let GEICO know about the accessories at the time of installation
I think my Foremost policy is the same

That sounds like a reasonable request on their part.
