Gun storage when crossing the border (Canada/Mexico)

Does anybody have a good reputable gun club/range they use to rent a short term storage locker on the Canadian border and/or the Mexican border?

I've been told Pawn shops are a choice, but not always a good one.

Need to store a couple of firearms before I visit Canada in the summer and Mexico in the Winter.

I know there are some places in Montana where you can store it. I looked into this earlier in the year.

When I looked at it, I decided it would better to leave mine at home with a friend. Just not worth the hassle.

thanks.  I would be great to find a place in a border town.  drop them off and pick them up a few months later.

I would think somebody has to cater to this.

I had even consider finding a good spot along the frame someplace to bolt a lock box to, but I decided against that. Trust me I have spot where I can hide them and they would have a VERY hard time finding them.

I did buy a 10 round mag for my 9mm just so I can go back east on a trip.

The Border guards from I see can change what they look for on a day to day basis. One day the may look at EVERYTHING and the next they may wave you through.

For personal protection it would be better to get a big can of Bear Spray.

Trust me, you don't want to take guns/ammo north or south of the border. Remember the guy about 10 years ago who got in the wrong exit lane and end up in Mexico. How many months did he spend in a Mexican prison and had to get a Senator or President to bail him out.

I did call one place in Yuma, I was told I could drop the guns off for servicing and cleaning. That might be a good option.

Be careful with the bear spray. Some states make it illegal to use it for anything except on a bear. Check out the story of the computer shop owner spraying a guy. I think he lost the court case and paid $20K in fines and judgements against him because it was bear spray and not mace.

I'm reading that in Canada it is illegal to prepare to defend yourself. So you can't carry any defensive weapon including pepper spray. Bear spray is fine if the can is large and you are in an area where bears might be a problem.

That entire concept is alien to me. A porcupine has more rights than a Canadian citizen, because the quills are ready to be used in its defense.

That being said, I still want to make sure I'm 100% legal when traveling there and Mexico.

yeah I hear you, I too would also be 100% legal. be sure to keep us updated. when I went through Canada in 1996 a shotgun was no problem but I have heard things have changed. highdesertranger

Would not a safety deposit box at a bank work? Seems we got one for $80 for the year.

Some guns are allowed in Canada but for hunting only. There a process you have to go through to do it. When I looked at it, it was more hassle than I wanted, I was planning on a trip to Alaska, and that means crossing the border twice.
