What an incredibly helpful site. I am currently in Deep Down east maine, a few miles from the eastern most point in the U.S.A. My wife and eye have an offgrid dream and were slowly but surely making our way to the forest. We are in the process of bringing back to life an old holidy ramblett. I think its late 60s early 70s if i had to guess. I had to gut it all out and put a new floor in and am at the stage of learning what and how to wire up a 12 volt system. (i might add i have ZERO experience and have been enjoying reading A LOT about how it works) But there jsut isnt anything like physically being shown how to do it. Anyway, we hope to learn a lot and this website has been SO helpful already.

The goal is to have a little home base in the woods. VERY VERY Simple. its winter here in maine now and im chipping away at the renovation as i find jobs to raise the money for materials. Eventually we'd like to collect rain water off a metal roof which i will add to the camper and use a pump to get it to the faucet. Will eventually pick up a solar panel or two ... Once were in place with the basics, im thinking of a sort of out door kitchen, cob oven etc ....... lots of plans and dreams. We are at the very very begining and its very exciting and have had quite the journey so far.

Just wanted to introduce ourselves Ryan and Bindi and say HELLO!!! and thanks everyone for all the great info Already on this site. LOVE seeing photos of what everyone else is doing......

Have the best day ever and see ya'll around the forums

welcome Ryan & Bindi! I know what the weather is like in the state of Maine in winter months. I was stationed at a military base near Limestone, ME for almost two years. Maine winters certainly are COLD!

Hi Ryan and Bindy,

Welcome to the group! There is so much help here it is amazing. The folks are nice, too.

I'm using electricity because it's available right now, but there's no feeling like being off the grid. I recently took a little trip and stayed off the grid for a few days using propane and solar. It's wonderful not having to pay the utility companies!

VT
