A German solar cell manufacturer is claiming a major breakthrough in the reduction of waste and power used for making the silicon wafers used in solar panels.
50% reduction in waste and 80% reduction in energy used during production. Should translate to lower cost of panels in near future.

has created an offshoot company called NexWafe, which is expected to begin using the new technique to mass producing the wafers in late 2017.

Interesting article, but Yahoo is filled with feel good click bait.  
If this new process  for making solar cells does not maximize profit for the powers that be in place worldwide, it will never be implemented.
