I have been contemplating the jump to a mobile lifestyle for almost a year now. I have finally made up my mind. The kids are now "settled" with their families ( they are 28-32 years old now) and have homes of their own to pass on the family heirlooms. After dealing with a couple of jerks and no-goods who are now ex-sons in law, the girls have finally grown up.
I came to the realization that I have been wearing myself out physically and financially by trying to keep a house and real estate up to the tune of $1600 a month. Way too much for a 60 year old to deal with.

Excuse the rant, but I am ready to walk away from it and live MY life now.....

Welcome and go for it Joe. Your girls will be happy with a happy dad!

Rae

Hi Ga Joe, welcome. You are in good company, as I know several vandwellers from Dalton, Atlanta, Savanna, and so on. Im 6 mikes from the Ga line in north Alabama. About 30 miles south of Chattanooga. Glad to have you join us.

Welcome Joe! This is one of the places where you are among friends from the very beginning.

V.T.

Welcome! And oh! All the beautiful things you can do with $1,600 a month! I cannot even begin to tell you how much of a kingly life you can lead with that if you don't blow it on a mortgage... Retire as early as you can would be my recommendation.
If you do the math, you will come out far ahead earlier (60-63) in time with a smaller amount (some say 75% of your retirement instead of 100% or higher) NOW than waiting for a higher sum if you retire later (and there is always the chance you could get stricken with a serious illness while on your way to 68 or up).

Update..
I am making the final negotiations on a 1989 Itasca. Getting a good deal, I believe. The rig just came off a coast to coast move. A family of 6 bought it in Seattle two years ago, and drove it to Georgia over the course of three months.. The rig has 82,000 miles, 454 engine, 4kw genset, new tires, 3 new batteries and cold air. The owner said it got 9 mpg on the trip, pulling a dolly and a minivan. I plan on docking it at my daughters house for now, until I get everything I want to keep condensed into the space alotted. Son in law is going to help set up sewer, water, and electric for me to have conveniences while there.
Wish me luck, God bless you.
sounds great
good luck to you---get it greased be sure to do Drive shaft-my old 84 had 24 fittings.Run & load the Genny at least monthly--they will gum up pretty quickly.

Joe,

You may want to consider a macerator to liquify your black tank contents to make disposal easier.

I found this article some time ago that may interest you:

http://steampunkworkshop.com/diy-rv-macerator-pump

Bob
