I may be a bit too much of a geek, but as an engineer I have done a lot of experimenting with these game cameras. There are two things to be cognizant of when deploying one for security. First, the range is very short for any imaging. If your intended area of coverage is more than 50 feet away from the camera, the pictures will be all but unusable for identification purposes. A few very expensive cams can get out to 75 feet, but most cannot get much past 40.

Second, and most importantly, the "automatic" mechanism of IR CCDs triggering on movement is VERY limited in range, especially in warm weather. On a cold, clear night, you can maybe trigger when a warm blooded animal walks by at 50 ft. A clothed person would have to be closer, maybe 40 feet. On an August night in humid South Texas, the person may not trigger at 10 feet. There has to be a temperature difference between a moving object and the background for it to work.

That being said, most cams will now take 32G memory cards. That is about 8 hours of pretty high resolution video. One could just set the cam to ON mode, and copy the memory card every morning. If I had a real security concern, that would be my method.

Bama
