"Chemo on the Rocks is a shoreside seat on Rebecca (Becky) Durkin’s great Alaskan misadventure. Highs and Lows on the Pacific Crest Trail
Authored by Bill Walker

The Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail (PCT)is the perfect place for an average person to do something extraordinary. Bill Walker ("Skywalker"), who stands 6'11", might seem like anything but average. Yet in a brutally honest tone, he lays to bare all his considerable weaknesses and fears. Among these are crushing weight loss and fatigue, along with a fear of getting lost or a bear stealing his food. Nonetheless, he is bound and determined to hike the PCT, which at 2,663 miles, runs all the way from Mexico to Canada.

Just a note for others who want to search further for more free books on Amazon.

I read books on my iPad but use the forums here on my Mac, so I didn't have the exact link from cyndi handy. I remembered the first word in the title was "prepping:" and with a colon. So I did a search in "short reads" with that search term.

About 40 books came up but I then went to the top right corner of the results box and changed the "sort" box from "relevance" to "price: low to high." This brought all of the FREE books to the top of the list. There was the book cyndi linked to for us -- plus another half dozen or so also with the word prepping in their title or subtitle.

Thought this process might be helpful for folks to use for any search term they care to find.

"A trip down memory lane is fine if you don’t stumble on a body. Frannie Shoemaker and her friends camp at Old Dam Trail State Park near one of Donna Nowak’s childhood homes. They take in the county fair, reminisce at a Fifties-Sixties dance, and check out old hangouts. But the present intrudes when a body surfaces. Donna becomes the focus of the investigation and Frannie wonders if the police shouldn’t be looking closer at the victim’s many enemies. A traveling goddess worshipper, a mystery writer and the Sisters on the Fly add color to the campground."

Does anyone have their Library Cards so they can use ap's like "Overdrive" ?  (for books) and "Zinio" for magazines and serial journals ?

Overdrive:

Zinio:

I have a small Mp3 player that uses micro SD memory Cards that I download audio books on to play through the sound system of my Van. (onboard L-ion battery charged by USB source.  I use cigarette lighter adapter)
The male to male jump cable from the Mp3 to aux input of the raido makes some nice listening.  Or I can DL
the ebooks to read on the Laptop or Tablet.

I downloaded Overdrive's ap to my desktop and log in now and surf through the books.  Some are
on hold or cheked out and others aren't.  I can put a hold on one and get an email telling me it's available.
In in 10 to 14 days it just deletes itself from the hard drive and I don't have to worry about driving to the Library to return it.  Just log in with the Library Card number.

I use it all the time with my Sony E Reader.

I was on a close friendly basis with our local librarians until I bought the E Reader...now I see them once every two years so that they can renew my library card... :D

BTW, with Overdrive you can adjust your loan period from 14 days down to 7. I have to remember to lengthen mine if I borrow one of the groups of books. I love the sort functions and once I learned to use the search function effectively it's great too.

The only thing I could wish for with it, is if told me before I borrowed a book that I'd already borrowed it 'way back when'. I start reading something, realize it sounds familiar and have to go check my laptop listing and find out that I've already read it...sigh!!

One of these days I'm going to figure out how to install the conversion program that will let me use Kindle as well!
