Thank you, Cyndi! I just saw this thread, and I love it!. I have 1048 books on my kindle now, and at least 95% of them were free. SOON I hope to have time to start reading them!
 
Several replies ago, someone asked about a way to find a specific category. I am only familiar with Amazon's method, but here it is:

Go to the search box on Amazon and type in: Free Kindle ebooks ______ (you put in your category such as "travel and recreation")

You may want to try a few other things like "RV" but using the first words above should pull in those offered for free in almost any subject.

I sell my novels through Amazon, and independent authors/publishers like me are allowed to offer any book for FREE up to five days within a 90-day period. Or a book can go on a Countdown Deal (usually starts at 99 cents).

My series of post-apocalyptic fiction books are not "normal" travel, of course, but they do contain survival and primitive camping tips woven into the stories (like what should be in your hiking pack). I'll post here the next time I put the first book in the series on a FREE promotion.

Thanks to all for these non-fiction links. I had not thought of using the free ebooks for nonfiction, but I"m going to load up now!!

WriterMs, I haven't been able to find a spot to "search" the free kindles yet. One could search a category I guess to see if anything free showed up---not sure which would be quicker. I like the free lists so I don't find something I want that turns out to cost something. LOL

On the Amazon.com website, you simply use the main search box. To find free books just type in the words "Free Kindle ebooks" before your subject word. I have noticed they now slip in some that are free only if you join the Kindle readers club (which costs money). So you DO have to double check that the actual Kindle book is free. But this allows you to find books if you have a specific subject you need at a certain time.
