Then installing a sliding door window in the back and crawling thro the back when no 1 is looking at night.

Although the biggest issue would be getting seen doing that....also my ranger is a 7 ft long bed and most shells are either 6ft or 8ft long so it would be hard to find the right size -_-. How much do these run for generally? I dont see any prices.

Google the brand... I cant tell from the picture.

Mountaineer campers in Mesa, AZ will build you whatever shape and size you want. I'm not sure if they still do it as they sell a lot of snugtops now, but worth a call. I worked with a guy who had an aluminum framed, tin sided one made for his toyota that you could practically stand up in.

As far as being seen in my experience people are vastly less observant than you think.

I wouldn't worry about being seen crawling into the back, people will assume you are getting something out. To crawl through the back window of a ford ranger one would have to be very limber and skinny!

hey bob I have dealt with those guys before. I would give them a thumbs up. highdesertranger

HDR, I'm seriously thinking about switching from the van to a truck and Bel Air shell. Would you mind elaborating on your experience with them. I'd feel better getting feedback from someone I trust.

Thanks!
Bob

sure bob. I have never bought or installed the wood and aluminum shells from them, only the fiberglass ones. I did install one of their custom fiberglass shells, it came with a solid front I cut it for an accordion boot. I have bought a few accordion boots from them and other misc. shell parts. do you think that the wood and aluminum style would hold up off road? if you want I will go down and talk to them, you know get a feel for the construction and ask questions, I am not that far from them. then give you a report. highdesertranger

HDR!! I would love that! I'm not in a big hurry though, the earliest I could make any changes is this winter. If you get a chance I'd appreciate it!
Bob

Bob, do you have a buyer for your van? Not sure what your plans or timeline are, but I may be interested...

HDR, did you ever get a chance to check out the Belair wood shells? Very curious to hear your assessment of them. Mine would be 90% on road, but would still like to hear a first hand account of their construction.

that's right I will get on it I will start a thread and see what questions people want asked. of course I will have my own questions. highdesertranger

Good deal, thank you! I may start a thread to see if anyone else has knowledge about them, or maybe to generate a list of questions? I have quite a few!

Love them Rangers....had one for 13 years and put over 300,000 miles on it. Was still in great shape, not using any oil, the day I traded a roofing contractor for a new roof on the house. Great trucks. All the best with your venture.
