Thinking about going to the keys. It would be the first time for me so I'm wondering if anyone has been there and how they made out with stealth, cops, good places to see and put up in, etc.

The key that is next to KeyWest is Cow Key. You might have better luck there. It's more industrial. All the homeless used to live there. 'course this info is about 15 years ago. I parked a rented motor home on the FDOT right of way while finishing up a lighting project that my resident construction engineer walked off of.

But from memory there should be a few spots to park stealth. I wouldn't try it in February though. That's when everybody goes there.

And Key West itself has no parking.

Good luck, it's a great place to fish and bar crawl. You can learn the "Duval Crawl".

Keys are tuff on stealth parking. Even ten years back any place you pulled off to walk the dog a cop would pull up and politely remind you not to set up there. Use to stay in the Key West airport parking lot for $3 a night. Not sure how that is now. It's said the keys are the most expensive place to camp in the US. Last trip I spent a week at Currie Hammock SP. Think it was $35 nightly. It's the best of the four SP in the keys for my money. (Long key SP. Bahia Honda SP. John Pennycamp SP)

I never made it to the keys, but every winter in Florida I'd think about it, especially when it got cold.  I heard it's really hard to find a place to park for the night.  I wonder if a bar parking lot would work.  I've camped in bar parking lots all over, it's always worked so far.

If you are going make sure to check out the dry Tortugas. Never been but it is pretty high up on my bucket list.

Yeah the ferry and the float plane are expensive but the islands are very cool(had a friend go there)

Been to the Tortugas five times, the seaplane is a lot of fun but very expensive, the fast cat gives you more time there and you can get in some excellent snorkeling.

If you got some primitive camping gear with you you can make arrangements to stay out there for a couple of nights, sure hope to get to do that soon.
