why vehicle manufacturers ever changed the power window and door locks from being mounted vertically on the door panel to horizontal on the arm rest is beyond me. on the arm rest dirt and water readily get into the switches and pets have a habit of working the buttons when they stand on the arm rest. some engineer really put a lot of thought into that. highdesertranger

I put a keyless entry on my van..... but never leave the dog alone inside anyway...

Sounds more like a case of the cat unlocking the door(s) when alone so anyone could have access that tried the door than the door getting locked by accident.

The even worse part is that she could roll down the windows too.  I think I'll get some metal and bend it then duct tape it to the panel, then I'll do the reverse tape thing as well.  So far as long as I keep feeding her on schedule she's pretty satisfied but she's recently learned the dash is a warm spot when the sun is out.

I've seen a lot of vehicles with electric (and hydralic) windows in nearly 50 years in and around the car business and I don;t ever remember on that you could raise of lower the windows unless the key was on.

Whoah, wait a minute, You're right about that! So did kitty turn the key on too? Was the car running? Was the key left in the accessory position?

Here in Southern Nevada the temperature gets 110f or more during the summer. Sometimes I leave my truck running and put a chain and padlock through the wheel when I leave the vehicle so my dog can have some air conditioning.

I've never had any heat source in my van.  My key to staying warm is sleeping bag, long underwear, hooded sweatshirt, and warm sweat pants.  My hoodie zips up, much more convenient than a pullover.  It's better than a hat, won't come off at night.

For the windows I put up curtains that are just garbage bags.  I have mine up with magnets but tape would work.

Good luck!

Yep, very true.  However when I leave it running while charging my laptop and I'm in the back folding clothes...

When she unlocked the doors I had dozed off while playing games on my phone.

I can't wear all that.  It's very similar to putting on more blankets; I feel like I'm being held down or constricted and I struggle to get everything off.  A few times I woke up in a panic fighting to rip the extra clothes off and felt like I was being choked.

My reality is the lighter the better.
