Hi Matt
I have been by the Deschutes River State Park many times although I have never stayed there.  It appears to be a nice park.  While in the area a short day trip to Maryhill Museum and Stonehenge would be worth your while.  They are just across the river from Biggs Junction.  Also there are various free camp sites along the river.  One that was recommended to me that I stayed at a couple days after Christmas is the Roosevelt Park at Roosevelt, Wa.  Had it all to myself.  It's a nice little park although maybe a little farther out of your way than you might want.

Also Aluminarium has just gone live with a new camping website you might want to check out.  campendium.com

Ok, these are the location on our route where our lodging costs exceed what I am comfortable paying

  • St Augustine, FL (close to town)
  • Daytona, FL (close to town)
  • Tampa, FL (close to town)
  • San Fransisco, CA (close to town)
  • Colorado Springs, CO (Garden of the Gods area)
  • Denver, CO (close to town)
  • Mesa Verde National Park
  • Glacier National Park
  • Franconia Notch State Park (Lincoln, NH)
  • Providence, RI (close to town)
I'm trying to stay under $20 a night.
Showers and flush toilets are preferred.
Free Wifi would be nice, but not required.

Any recommendations?

You might want to Google Medina Lake area. It's water level is way down. South Texas had a severe drought the last several years. Canyon Lake might have a better view.

I am aware. Last I checked the lake was actually gone. We don't fish or boat or anything like that, so it's not a big deal for us. It does mean fewer people. The days we are staying there are pretty much reserved for relaxing and processing photos. And the park is free with lots of other amenities.
