My brother turned me on to a legal, easy way to make some quick cash. He used to install peepholes (the little hole you look through to see who is on your doorstep without opening your door) for people, especially folks in new developments. Just go door-to-door and be ready to install one on the spot when you find a homeowner who wants a peephole in their door.

The peepholes are usually inexpensive. I've seen them sold for under $5.00. A drill is the only tool you really need to install one. Most of what you charge for is labor. You can get $30.00-$70.00 per install, depending on the area.

Not going to make you rich, but it can put dinner on the table or fill your gas tank if you're seriously low on funds.

My work is through agencies. Each year I get my&nbsp;criminal&nbsp;record check done. You might want to check out what it costs to be bonded. It looks good on a business card. Just for your information, my brother works for a large grocery chain. He told me that the the optimum eye level for retail shelf display is 5'6". So this may be the proper height for most peep holes. I would check by calling a door company and ask them also. What about installing a decorative door knocker. Get a wholesale price with 6 different models. Keep some in stock. Display them on a nice&nbsp;lacquered framed board with a carry handle. Be sure to get your measurements &nbsp;right when drilling for the knocker. Don't want it crooked!&nbsp;You can use a bit of thin double sided sticky tape to place it on the door. Then ask the client if it is where they want it and if it looks good to them. Johnny, that's an excellent add-on or alternative for the peephole Instalation.

For the height of the peephole, the customer can decide where they want it. Once they've determined the height, you mark it, drill it, and install the peephole.

I really like being able to offer the doorknocker as well. Doesn't require any extra equipment beyond what you need for the peepholes anyway and it provides another product for the customer to choose from.

I don't know that you can build a whole business around just this, but it can work very well for some extra cash should you need it. Then again, maybe you can build a business doing this. Who knows?

I'd imagine folks who do handyman work or can do an oil change could make some quick cash as well, assuming they're willing to go door to door and hear 'no thanks' multiple times before they get a taker.

Or you need to buy a license in some jurisdictions to solicite. Here it's a $20 dollar permit. Generally get a warning first time, summons into to court for a repeat offense.

You all may be right about needing a permit in some places, or not being allowed to do it at all. But, you may find a few places where you can do this. Or, if your back is against the wall, financially, it's something you might try despite rules against it. Most likely, you won't be thrown in jail the first time, just asked to stop.

It's just something to go in your bag of tricks should you ever need it.

<div><br></div><div>Just put a note holder with a strong magnet over the hole. It covers the peephole and holds a note should you need to leave one. When someone knocks you pull it off and look through the hole. Voila!</div><div><br></div>

<p>Better yet, get creative and design a swing up decorative cover that can be swung out of the way to look through the peep hole.&nbsp; Would add to the allure of a door to door salesman because you'd have something unique that isn't readily available to be purchased at local hardware store.</p>
