I'm wondering if anyone is a member of Escapees and knows the amount of the discount off Battleborn lithium batteries. This is a recent partnership between the two. I'm probably going to join anyway but I'm not hitting the road until about December so I'm not in a rush. If it's a good enough discount I may join now.

(Yeah, I'm blabbing about batteries again).

Thanks ahead of time..

Northern Arizona Wind and Sun has them on sale through July 26th at 10% off

Renogy had their lithium's for $719 on sale for prime day. Watch their sales and you can get better pricing.

I ended up buying two of the Battleborn 12v 100AH last night. They cost me 854.10 ea from Northern Arizona Wind and Sun. They're running a 10% off sale through July 26th on lithium batteries so I saved almost two hundred bucks off their regular price.

Aside from the virtues of the batteries, I decided to go with them because of the ten year warranty. Eight years full replacement, 2 years pro rated. Renogy's lithium have a 5 year pro rated warranty (at least that's the way I read it).

I have a very large bandage on my azz to stop the bleeding but I'll get over it.

Thanks

now I can see spending money like that for good tools, quality guns, or gold/silver. but to spend that kind of money on something that in the end is worth zero, I just can't see. highdesertranger

It works out to about 58.2 cents a day over 8 years or a little less than 215.00 a year or a little less than 18.00 a month. I can deal with an 18.00 electric bill. Less if I get 10 years out of them and it's already paid. No interest

Those costs are for the batteries only. It doesn't factor in what I've already paid for the rest of the system

I guess if you normally eat batteries every couple of years. but what if you don't? my two marine batteries are 7 years old and cost less than 200 bucks when I bought them. this winter I plan on upgrading to four 6v, I am planning on 10 years out of them. I was planning on replacing them last year but they refuse to die. we will see how long the 6v last, by the time they bite the dust Lithium should be real cheap. highdesertranger

I'll be cycling the crap out of them. I'm usually up all night so I'll be chewing up a lot of amps before the sun charges them back up. The main thing is, the search is over. It's been wearing me out. Now I can take care of the little stuff and get on the road in a few months

So, I guess in the other thread about batteries, where you didn't like my idea of using lithium's, and now you do... :p

lol...

You're welcome. (I am pretty good at helping spend other people's money!)

And welcome to the 'fold'....

Yeah that's interesting you landed on lithium. But zero off gasing was a big concern I remember. Congrats and I hope you get many many many moons of service out of them.

I think I'm gonna bite the bullet next month and buy the 2 pack of rich solar 100w polys on Amazon for $161. I'd rather get panels from santan but I'm just too gosh darn far.

I'll be getting marine batteries. $86 a pop. Even if I went thru a pair a year $172 annual power bill sounds good to me.

XERTYX I believe you will find if you don't cycle them to low and keep them good and charged. in other words don't abuse them you will get many years out of them. highdesertranger

I liked the idea of lithium but not the frigging price

Yeah, I was only concerned because most of the time I'll be sleeping while they're in bulk charge. I'm not real worried about fumes otherwise. I want to be able to close my windows if I'm in a noisy spot.

Here's the main reason I didn't want to go with FLA. I'm a moron and couldn't figure out a place to put them where I would have a sealed box (that I have no clue how to build) that vented outside. I was going to get two huge batteries or four golf cart size. They would have weighed over 250lbs and I didn't want to put them on the driver side because there's already a 35 gallon gas tank on that side. The way I have the other side planned, I wouldn't have been able to keep all 4 between the axles. I don't really think lithium is cheaper than lead acid but over 8-10 years or more time, the lithium with heavy use aren't that much more. The upfront cost sucks and I know they're going to go down in price. AGM's would have been fine but the lithium will get many more lifetime cycles.
Thanks

No one likes the price. Except maybe the manufacturers, the dealers, and the state that collects the tax on them.

At any rate, my dometic 12v fridge is purring happily along (set to freezing) with a 100ah Battle Born Battery and a 100 watt portable panel...and PWM controller...Lithium batteries are easy to charge and will accept everything this panel will throw at it (about 6 amps)…

Yeah I doubt I'd kill my walmart deep cycles when I get them HDR I'm just saying even if i did. I believe very strongly in chaos theory. Maybe it's my paranoia. But anyway I'm gonna try and budget this in and order the panels next month. Then the following month buy the batteries and charge controller. I still havent found a trailer to build out yet. I'm thinking an old ragged out popup built with 4 walls. 86 the slideouts (or at least one of them) and go from there. I could kick myself I didnt snatch up the one I found on craigslist about 10 miles from me.

I'm not sure if you're aware of the deep cycle batteries at Batteries Plus. They're made in the USA by  East Penn\Deka. If you order them online and pick them up in person you get 10% off. They're 92.99 here in Florida.  They do have a core charge and I'm not aware if Walmart does.

Here's a link to one of the 6v golf-cart deep cycle available at Batteries Plus. They have the same one year warranty but I would think they would last a whole lot longer than that.

The big advantages of lithium are how fast they charge and the number of charge cycles they have. My electrical needs add up to 1500 watt hours, which most people would round up and get 2 batteries, but with lithium batteries, I'll have the battery charged by noon and be running off solar the whole day on a full battery. So that 1500 watt hours is actually much less. I'll also need fewer solar panels. In the full lifetime of the battery, it will be much cheaper than any other option.

Do you ever camp where it rains or there is heavy cloud cover? You need to plan for a couple of crappy solar charging days in a row.
