I never realized, until I read this article, that Dylan included dogs in a lot of songs. I've always enjoyed Dylan's music. But there are times when I can't listen to that voice.

"While I’ve read that Dylan has owned many different dogs—everything from Beagles and Labs to St. Bernards and Great Danes (an eclectic bunch that seems to rival his varied musical styles)—his apparent affinity for them doesn’t stop at the end of the leash.

If you’ve listened to just a little Dylan, you’ve no doubt heard dogs running loose in his lyrics. But until recently I didn’t realize how prominent they really are..."

Neil doesn't have the best voice but he has soul.  even Richard Nixon has got soul.  highdesertranger

The gap in the Nixon Tapes is the same length as Alice's Restaurant Massacre.  :p  (So claims Arlo Guthrie)

I've always heard that song writers weren't necessarily "singers".  (or the best choice of people to perform their own songs).   Dylan went ahead and did it all anyways.   Al Gorossman was responsible for promoting Dylan the same way Ahmet Ertegun was responsible for so many other musicians we admire today.

I don't think Dylan's music would have been the same without his voice and guitar/harmonica accompaniment.
Personally I've always enjoyed Dylan's poetic style.   I once asked a musician friend of mine what he thought of
Dylan as compared to some of the other big Pop Music stars and he simply said,  "It would be like comparing Porky Pig Comic Books to Shakespeare".

Bob Dylan, John Denver, Paul Simon, John Lennon, Paul McCartney,  Richard Berry, Woody &  Arlo Guthrie, Johnny Cash, Chuck Berry,  Jagger & Richards, Carol King ~~~ The list is endless.

Many died early, and we are a much poorer world because of that.

But we are lucky to have seen and experienced their performances.  I like to think the world is a better place because of them.

Does everyone know how the Nobel prizes originated? Alfred Nobel made money off inventing dynamite and didn't want to be remembered as the guy who invented dynamite, so he founded prizes in his name. So when you think of Nobel prizes, think subterfuge and stuff blowin' up. Just a bit of side trivia there for you.

Actually, I always thought the same thing, but I just recently learned that it was more complicated than that.

He actually had 355 patents, not just the one for dynamite, and he also owned the Bofors Armament works.  (In WW2, both sides were still using 40mm Bofors Anti-Aircraft guns)  He owned some 90 armament factories when he died.

Anyway, one of his brothers died, and a newspaper thought it was him so they published his obituary.  He was actually appalled when he read it to discover that  he was viewed as a "Merchant of Death".

Details in the Wikipedia article:

I notice in tonight's news that Dylan hasn't acknowledged the Nobel Committee award yet.

Some are already expressing angst at Dylan over this,  saying "That if he doesn't plan to attend the awards
he should be denied he award".

Dylan isn't much of a speech maker.   And the Nobel Committee has supposedly given up on trying to contact him.

Whenever I want to contact someone that is out on tour I go to their website.

http://bobdylan.com/on-tour/ 20+ shows across the south and east in the next month or so...

Dylan is kind of quirky . He doesn't seek approval . Record sales tell him how he's doing.

Who do they think they are?  The I. O. C?  :p

If they wish to present an award, they need to make personal contact.  He does not even need to show up in person.

Anyone remember Albert Schweitzer?  (There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life, music and cats.)  He was to busy to collect his award.~~~
