I haven't purchased one yet but this morning I had a near miss that convinced me to get my butt in gear on
this.

I was in the left lane on a 4 lane one way street traveling at about 20 mph.  A gray Mini Van in the lane to my right pulled right across my path to make a turn.   Like I wasn't even there.

I reacted and slammed on the brakes in an instant bracing for impact.

It all happened in a second and the driver of the Mini Van took off in a hurry as I drove on through the intersection.

Had I had a dash cam....I may have been able to determine if the driver was talking on a Cell or whatever in the event we wrecked into each other. (and they stuffed the Cell in their pocket to avoid charges of "distracted driving")   I'm sure my insurance rates and Insurance Agent would have remained stable had they had that video evidence should I had to call them with the bad news.

My current favorite dashcam is the Garmin Dashcam 20. Retails for around $179 to $249. Will take 1080 high def video while shooting still pics simultaneously at a press of a button. Cool feature, plus many bells and whistles. My previous 2 Blackvue dashcams have malfunctioned on me.
