Welcome to the group from New Mexico.... DocT...glad to have you with us.

Say, what kind of MPG do you get with your PT cruiser..????
Bri

thanks from the group from NM. Cant wait to met you all someday! I get 30-40 mpg! No kidding. I have thought about getting a mini van or a tear drop trailer to haul or a small cargo van or just a small trailer. BUT I do not want to give up my mileage! So I think I am going to settle on either a trasharoo (see at www.trasharoo.com&nbsp or a car back saddle bag. They both attach to the hatchbak on my Cruiser. 2 trasharoos would fit and give me the same amount of pounds of contents as one saddlebag, but I think 2 trasharoos would be easier for me to handle. And cheaper by about $70.00! I have seen the trasharoos and they are extremely well made. I can get one at around $45.00 and then get one a litle later for the same price if I feel like I cannot afford two at once.

Welcome to the group from New Mexico.... Welcome!!!

I lived in a minivan for a little bit, and It was nice, but I upgraded to 72 sq ft in a full-size van, and it's even nicer!

I didn't really trade much in mileage, I get about 19mpg in my big van. I got about 22 in the minivan.

I'll be at the RTR, looking forward to meeting you!

With Love,
Tara

Hi Doct I am tickled to hear of the good mileage...I had looked online and I read that it only got 26 mpg at best so it is good to here real life mpg being higher. I need to come up with a long distance car for visits with my kids in the PNW that I can afford to drive up there...my Astro chinookie only gets 20 mpg at the best.....

Thanks and hope to see you at the RTR...
Bri

Welcome DocT... excellent MPG there! I may have to look into one of those.

Thanks everyone! Nice to be a part of the group! There are so many nice folks out here and I am looking forward to meeting everyone at RTR!

just bought an older 1989 Toyota 4Runner that gets about 6 miles more per gallon than it states. Don't know why but I'm a happy camper. Tested it thru the Poconos for just under 2000 miles. I haven't run the numbers for my usual in town driving though.
Dragonfly

I wonder if the better mileage has to do with maybe getting real gasoline rather than E10 mix. We have one gas station here in TorC, the cheapest one or at least the one that makes the others sell gas cheaper....that is the only one selling real, non-alcohol added gasoline...a godsend for my old Honda Goldwing that really does not like E10. It WILL give you better mileage.

I would also love to take a ride with those who get big mileage and watch how they drive...that may also be a key.

I know that the hyper-milers who drive things like a Geo Metro XFI and claim well over 60 mpg...do things like leave the light or stop sign gently and slowly, adjust their speed to make all lights, no quick stops and no jack rabbit starts, never over rev and always shift at lower rpms...etc.

Interesting thoughts about a nice looking and roomy vehicle..........
Bri

I don't know Bri, I do know, I can't drive 55. We averaged on cruise 71mph. Nor much of a load either. Seriously though I am pretty sure the 4Runner doesn't do nearly as well in town. I will ck it out because now I'm curious. I use low test gasoline. I never pay attention at the pumps here around town. I will note next time what alcohol is in it. I guess it changes in the winter and maybe even differnt parts of the country.

Greetings from Iowa! That gas mileage sounds terrific! That would be nice!

Even though I'm in corn country, I have to agree with the others who say that any alcohol - even 10% - in the gas reduces mileage... Neither of my two Chevys (an Impala and an Express van) like the stuff very much.

Take care and again, welcome to the clan!

V.T.

We've camped in out pt cruiser and that's why we got a van.
I've never heard of such mileage; I sure wish mine got that good. The cruiser has an amazing amount of room. We have taken the two back seats out entirely and I can get way more stuff than I need in it!
Nelda Trish, did you remove your back seats?
Welcome aboard, Doc T!
Wow, if you're really getting THAT kind of mileage,
U better drive that thing till the wheels fall off!

Yep, have them in storage so if I decide to sell, I will have them. Lots of storage but am still using a saddlebag for stuff I don'[t want inside 9like dirty clothes!).
Nelda Trish, did you remove your back seats?[/quote]

Love the looks of the PT Cruiser but they have the same drive train as the Neon which isn't a very good one. OK (just OK) as long as you do the maintenance on time or early but still not much. Being a reformed dealer, I wouldn't have anything made by Chrysler if I had to depend on it. Now that not counting the Cummins diesel but the trucks themselves aren't as good as the Fords or Chevys

I am amazed that you can live in a PT cruiser! wow... I am enjoying all your stories as I type in my little house on wheels here in TX. happy travels!
