Lake Powell is in the Canyonlands. It has more miles of coastline than the whole state of California. The several rivers feed the main Colorado River channel which forms Lake Powell. Those river channels and canyons are often not marked and wider than the main channel, with 185 miles of main channel and with it being possible to go sometimes 90 miles up a wrong river or canyon by the time you figure out you are lost your are also out of fuel and stranded. At least once a week we find someone who in the winter may have been out for as many as 5 days on the north end of the lake waiting for help as there is little or no radio or cell phone com even sat phones only work a few minutes in a 100' straight wall canyon.

Thanks for the info, bullfrog. If a fish jumped into my boat in that situation I'd eat it!
