DIY Lithium battery burndown RV...

I've watched a vlog called Kombi Life for awhile, and just saw that their RV burned up in a fire caused by the battery. You can see the battery at 6:00 in this video: 

When he held it up, the first thing I thought was that it looked like the DIY Tesla Powerwall that someone posted recently...it''s made from laptop battery cells. I posted in the comments asking what type of battery it was, and he said it was indeed homemade.

So for anyone tempted by claims of cheap LiPO4 assembled in your spare time...just don't.

I've seen the videos and using used batteries in a large set up just doesn't seem like a great idea.

LiFePo are the only safe Li batteries. Other Li chemistries are used because of higher energy density, smaller battery for the use.

I wouldn't want lipos in my van. I've used them a lot in R/C and can't tell you how many times I've seen them catch fire.

Li Fe Po batteries have been tested and shown to not catch fire. The other Li chemistries are the problem.

I am interested in switching to LiFePo from lead acid.

Next year if Blars does his Lithium seminar again I will be paying close attention.

LifePo4 can go into thermal runaway.  Granted, it takes a rather serious event to do so. They are safer than any other lithium battery chemistry, other than the one described below.

The GBS LiFeMnPo4 cells, that are are doped with manganese, are touted to not go into thermal runaway even when a metal rod is driven thru a number of them.
