A couple of online sources are now available to help anyone (nomad's) find deals on food at Grocery Stores and Eateries. You can download the app's and or visit the FB page of these sites. Using the zip code you are in will reveal local sources. You may be able to buy a bag of prepared foods the eatery has surpluses of or find deals on packaged foods that are near their "best used by date".

30% of our food is wasted along the supply line and even at home. 40% of the fruit that is produced in the USA is wasted as well. Now this national initiative seeks to help both suppliers and consumers.

According to the AgDay website (A national agriculture report)

Perhaps there will be a message board that tracks current prices on national brands & store brands to inform consumers of who has the most competitive prices.

One of the more forgotten aspects of Capitalism is Competition in the free market. This should be a mutually equitable venture.

That’s a great resource, eDJ.

We have a completely community supported food pantry where I live that gets donations from grocers, restaurants, bakeries, etc., where people can shop in exchange for 2 service hours or a $5 donation.

Food should not go to waste, great to see ways for folks to access.

I hate food waste with hungry people in America! We had a 5 stop Amish route we'd do once a month when the kids were at home & could buy a van load of very high quality food near the sell by date for $100. It's a disgrace what many Americans waste.

“Grocery Outlet - Bargain Market” chain is not nation wide but they do have stores in multiple western states meaning California, Oregon, Washington and a few in Western Nevada state as well as a few in Idaho. California has a lot of them throughout the state including in the Serria Mountain area and in El Centro,CA. There is BLM Long term visitor area with a hot springs in the vicinity of the town of El Centro, CA as well as other BLM 14 day dispersed camping and that makes the town of El Centro a good location for buying groceries while being a winter warm climate camping area.

They sell foods they purchase in lots from distribution warehouses but also reduced priced products nearing the expiration date and just other brands they get extra good discounts on. Good prices on pet foods as well. Plus fresh veggies, meats, dairy, bread, soaps, cleaning products, paper products, etc so the everyday basic needs for families are covered. I used this grocery store chain often while living at home base in Seattle, it saved me a lot of money compared to shopping at the stores in the Kroger corporation chain conglomerate. They do have quite a lot of Organic food choices in the stores which is very nice to be able to get as discounted price options!
