There is an official website, if this is what OP meant. Annual Event. Apparently near Hole in the Ground crater. People tend to get stuck in the sand.

I don't know for sure, but I think the deal is that it was easier to organize for a large group by holding it on private land, rather than trying to get Forest Service permission. Remember BW talks about problems with dealing with the FS. As a result, the private land owner wants some compensation. Just a guess. Also,
