Crossing the Border from Canada or Mexico?

My thoughts - it happens way too seldom to be worried about it! The number of international travelers who actually had their electronic equipment searched compared to the number of border crossings is infinitesimally small.

And there's no proprietary information or anything else on any of my electronic equipment that I need to be hiding.

I'll spend my time making sure that I don't have anything like meat and certain veggies/fruits that they'll object to rather than worrying about my laptop.

Hmnn.  I keep a pdf which lists all my banking, Paypal, and credit card info - Account numbers, User ID's and passwords (complex passwords) in an encrypted file.  The password to unencrypt the file is the only one I need to remember.

See now I wouldn't consider a list of passwords and User ID's to be something that needs to be concealed from border security. Heck I keep my list on an index card.

Things that need to be hidden according to me are things like 'proof that I'm working without a work permit', porn and terrorist plottings. None of which are of any interest to me.

Things that need to be hidden according to the articles are things like trade secrets from a business aspect. None of which I'm carrying.
