Saw this today. Thought it was pretty cool. He used quarter inch plywood, fiberglassed the corners, and coated the hole thing with snow coat. The peaked roof allow him to stand in it, but crouched a little. If you notice the front sides, he made it a little wider so he can sleep across the front. He said the bed area is 6ft 8 inches.

That's kinda cool. It reminds me of the dog boxes folks built in Appalachia when hunting. I'll say, I couldn't have managed to stand upright in that after the age of 9.

He told me it didn't change his gas mileage. He said it weighs about 6 to 7 hundred pounds.

I thought of making a camper shell out of Styrofoam panels laminated together to make structural walls and roof then fiberglass the outside of it. This would be much lighter than an all wood structure. and with thick walls would be insulated much better. I seen one on a web page that someone built, it weighed about 400 pounds.

http://www.hookedupfilms.com/category/huf-adventure-vehicle/

Pretty cool stuff! Nicely done! Not too stealthy but who cares? :)

VT

Not quite my cup of tea (the design layout), but seeing different perspectives on living space isn't a bad thing ...

Thanks for the link...very cool rig. I believe that is similar to how the euro campers are made...I don't know the process but it looks like foam sandwiched between layers of fiberglass and then bonded together at corners, etc. I have looked around a bit and haven't found a source for sheets like that...I was thinking of building a sidecar camper from that material...keep us posted if you do this....
Bri

Hmm? First reply got lost.
I love the school bus. This makes me think about finishing off the one I have. Not practicle for gas mileage these days but good for a fixed spot.
