there has been a discussion on cargo carriers recently,  well e-trailer sends me emails from time to time with special sales.  look what showed up today.  http://www.etrailer.com/Hitch-Cargo-Carrier/Curt/C18145.html?utm_source=iContact&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=etrailer&utm_content=George  .  I have no idea of the quality of this item and the only relationship I have with e-trailer is I buy from them from time to time.  this seems to be a great deal.  thought I would pass it along.  highdesertranger

I've owned some Curt products and they were all good. But I'm troubled by how the cross bars attach, it looks like they run through holes in the 2 inch bar and that seems like a bad idea.

well they actually bolt to the bar. in fact the whole thing bolts together. I am not endorsing it, I guess I should have stated that. in fact if I wanted one of these I would just build one. highdesertranger

I'm always put off by the 1 1/4" bar with a 2" adapter. I have one of each if the 1 1/4" one manages to find it's way home after being loaned out. HA!! OK on a bike rack I guess but I wouldn't want to hang the rated 500# on it.

If one reads the specifications sheet in the fine print it shows that when using a 1 1/4" Class I hitch, it's weight limit is only 200 lbs, with a 1 1/4" Class II hitch it goes up to 350 lbs. It's not until you get to a Class III hitch that you actually get 500 lbs weight limit on it.

iwas not impressed by the carriers i had seen n they seemed so flimzy. i cant tell you how many times driving down the road, you see carriers all sagging n bent. besides maybe backing into stuff. i thi,k part of it us due to chinzy product . with this in mind, ended up building a carrier myself. its all 1/4 thick channel n fully welded gussets.. yes it weighs a bit more but i feel better when i have my Honda inverter generator sitting on it. cruising down the road.
