I've read several threads with cats and vans, but I'm wondering if traveling in a car with my car would be too much for him.

Basil is two years old (in June) and has been an indoor/outdoor cat his whole life. When he moved in with my mom, she tried to keep him inside only and he would bolt for the door.

He's vocal. VERY vocal. My old room mate taught him that if he meows at doors she'll open them for him. He goes around meowing at closets thinking we'll open them (NOPE!). That might be untaught eventually, but right now he's a vocal kitty.

I'm willing to take him on daily outings and install a pop up sun roof so he can get some sunshine and some fresh air.

Cat's do sleep 13-14 hours a day. With two to three walks a day, he might be okay?

It's just a small space to keep a cat for the rest of the day.

Hi. I'm a dog person myself, but know someone who travels with two cats. She has a cheap pet car seat for the one and he rides quite nicely. The other kitty, though, meows, howls and has gastrointestinal upset when on the road. Both are fine when parked and she has a pop-up enclosure for them to get close to nature and keep safe. Does Basil ride well? That would be an issue for me, especially since he is very vocal. My bias is to keep your pet unless you are sure you cannot make it work...and there are lots of great resources and experience on this forum. Good luck!

I am also a dog person. I would think about the temp inside the car when you have to leave your cat in the car. I can leave all my windows down and my dog will stay in the truck. nobody and I mean nobody can stick their arm in my truck but with a cat you are going to have to get creative which I think you could do by looking at the pic of your car very cool the way you did that. highdesretranger

To Moonium: How will you keep the car cool enough when you are not in it? A car can reach as much as 145 degrees on a spring, summer, or fall day. The cat would die a horrible death, or some kind person will break the window to save him. You could receive a fine also, for cruelty or worse. No animals can live in a car unless you have a place in the shade, in a building, that's cool all day. And the sun moves. What was shady at 9 Am could be all sunlight by noon. You would have to leave the A/C on even if you ran into a store for 5 minutes for a loaf of bread.
