Thank you Bob! I had to put the search on hold, as I was able to borrow a car and am working on cash flow issues. In the next day or so if I can't find one, I will find the closest thing and do whatever needs to be done to make it work. Baling wire, duct tape, string, twisted panties, or whatever else might work. And yes, silly putty of course.

Hi Vonbrown,

I appreciate the links. Unfortunately the Y262 cable doesn't work for my year and engine. The ends are different. In a couple days I'll be looking for the closest fit and working out how to make it work on the van. Right now funds are tight from not working the last couple weeks.

take the cable to the local you pull it/wrecking yard and start looking under gm hoods,cars/trucks/vans

Here are pics of the ends that are a bit easier to see. My mechanic is going to try and find something similar and make it work. I put the link there because the pictures are higher res so you can see it in a bit more detail.

Success!!! After a weekend of work, I spent the day running around to all of the wrecking yards I had been previously. After being told again that I would have to get one made, i tried my go to pick a part one last time.
Sure enough, there was my van looking at me in grey. two weeks, countless hours, lots of help, $6, and a 5 minute install, the van is back up and running!

Thank you everyone that helped me. It's very appreciated.

Highdesertranger: I was about to give them a call today now that I had some money, but luckily it all worked out, whew...

Happy Camper, on your travels will you be frequenting other pick a part places to find yourself a backup?

I plan on getting a few more things from this van in the coming week. And yes, I plan on finding a backup cable just in case. The one I picked up today is in great shape. But I'm not going to take any chances.

Funny thing is that I targeted the 350 engine for the availability of parts. Who knew I would need the one thing *surrounding* it that I couldn't find. lol

great advice from bigsallysmom.  everyone should heed this advice.   highdesertranger

I have a bucket of spare parts.  Belts, hoses, relays. clamps  It only takes one to make the whole bucket worthwhile. Last year a small bypass hose saved my engine.

I have extra packs of wiper bushings as they only last about 8,000 miles.

exactly GotSmart. everyone should have some critical spare parts, this subject would make a good thread. highdesertranger
