I just had a look at one of my jars of better than Bouillon and the FIRST ingredient is roasted beef w. beef broth, the second is yeast extract and salt comes at 3rd. Per 5.5g (5500mg) it has 0.46g (460mg, 19% daily value) and is equivalent to 1 bouillon cube.. but with 0% MSG. That doesn't sound at all bad to me.

Willie: Better than just 'good'. That's something I'm going to be buying some of. Thankeekindly.

I know...I shouldn't have the salt either. The one I have now has a lot of salt...a portion has like 25% of the daily amount....a lot.

I do have some HerbOx that is sodium free.... Beef flavor...gluten and MSG free....I think I'll stick with that now that I am aware of it....
Bri

I'll have to check that out. For now it's the strict diet, but the upside is that it's only for the next few months.

Count me in for the low salt diet restrictions. Good comments from all about the best choices.

I like cows. Even more, I like EATING cows. It's the cooked-cow taste that does it for me, and I crave REAL cooked cow.. not the fake stuff. Funny thing is, it costs just as much, if not more, to buy the fake stuff (MSG and a pile of who-knows -what). Crazy.

Isn't bouillon just fake chemicals? Where's the nutrient value and protein in that? Does it have real dried chicken or beef in it? Do you add your own food, like chicken bits or veggies for some real nutrients. You could add a small can of chicken flakes to it to get the protein.

The 'Better than Bouillon" stuff is actual beef/beef broth (they have chicken too, but I like beef).

Its probably more money too, eh?
So I guess the cheap stuff is just another way to salt and flavour a cup of hot water...
Obviously canned real broth his healthier.
You could add some herbs to it and small bits of canned meat and canned carrots and noodles to make your own, nutritious soup that would be a meal with a thick slice of dark nutty bread and real butter.
(I'm hungry... )

Actually, the strange thing is.. it really isn't more expensive than the MSG style garbage out there. It is, however, considerably tastier and doesn't end up giving me the tremendous gas that MSG rich stuff does.

Stock is healthier and cheaper than broth or bouillon. It also has no MSG.
