I was thinking of coming down from Ontario Canada to your annual convention, and I was wondering, can I come down in just my SUV to sleep while there or do you need a trailer for this event. I'm saving up for a cargo to convert in the future as I will soon be living in one full time. Retired and apartment life is just to expensive on pentions. So I would be 5 and half months in states the rest of the time I would have to be in Canada. I've done a budget and could afford to do this plus save for those emergencies that come up.
Second question would be able to use a generator on my conversion when I do it, since i'm not very good with electrical wiring. But can do regular wiring like a house.

Welcome to the forum, sure you can sleep in your SUV.

I suggest you buy an inverter generator because they are very QUIET and sip a little gasoline. Noisy contractor-type generators will wear you out fast with the noise they generate.

Welcome to the CRVL forums kyra1958! An SUV is fine. People camp in everything included tents. Hope to see you there!

To help you learn the ins and outs of these forums, this "Tips & Tricks" post lists some helpful information to get you started. We look forward to hearing more from you.

The most important living space is that outside your vehicle - assuming you can drive to where the weather is reasonable. Not stats, but I think we are seeing more and more Canadians. 12v wiring is a bit different from house wiring, the same level of respect for the wire will do you well. Risk is less, and different. Fuse. A generator in combo with a smaller starter/learning curve solar system is a good way to go.

Thank you for all the reply's, But I made a mistake, the dates I asked about said 2018, but since its now July 2018, is the RTR, got dates for 2019 yet.

Thank you for that info, since I posted last, I've purchased a gazebo since I couldn't find a tent to fit my needs, will set it up so it is like an add a room for the car, I need a space for my dog cage and cooking area and to have privacy area for potty. I know that they will have port a potty's but sometimes I can walk very far if I have to go. and since Gazebo siding is expensive will just attack tarps to it, will get clips and bracket holders from hardwarestore so I can just clip them on. I only need enough solar power to run a mini fridge when I start camping full time, in the mean time will just use cooler and no perishable foods to last my 2 weeks I plan on being there.

Welcome kyra1958!

Here's what I've camped in at the last two RTR's:

It's probably a fair bit smaller than your SUV.

Still, here's a link to my build thread. Who knows? There just may be an idea or two that you can steal.

Welcome, kyra1958! Maybe we'll see you at the RTR.

oh I will be coming down, as soon as I know the new location and date, will be doing the S.U.V camping, but couldn't find a tent for my doing private things so I came up with next best solution, I bought a canapy i'm going to put up next to my car. and then I will just take tarps and pin them inside the netting, so I can open and close them as needed, and one will go up over the car when i'm stationary so I can just jump out of car and be right in the private tent area and have it set up that only way in is through the car, lol. Will see how it works out when I get there, already bought a cargo bag for storage above the car so I don't run out of traveling space for packing.
