No experience but they seem to be much sturdier than the plastic totes or the cabinets from walmart make of the same material as the cheap totes. I have looked at them a while back for household use but not gotten any.

Well, my drooling brought on a disaster today. I'm a lampwork artist and my glass storage system collapsed while enroute, sending glass rods flying willy nilly everywhere. Now I have to immediately find a solution to storing it safely. I looked at the resin one above in Home Depot today - not sturdy enough :-(

Has anyone used traditional filing cabinets? Any other suggestions are welcome. The area I'm working with is 20" wide and can be up to 30" deep, with a max height of 65".

Lampwork. Sounds like yet another perfect avocation for a van/bus dweller.
-Bill-

Do you wrap the glass in the bubble wrap? A file cabinet sounds good. You can get a second hand one from a garage sale and spray paint it. What ever cabinet you get make sure its secured somehow in the van.

Hi CrossCountryGal, did you find a way to safely store your glass rods? Such an unusual need and there doesn't seem to be anything ready made to keep them completely protected while you are driving. I have been racking my brain thinking of something simple enough to diy. How long are the longest rods? Sassy

I'm not sure what your glass rod look like size wise but have you thought of using 4" pvc pipe?
You could put caps on either end and suspend from the ceiling or slide under a bed area?? OR you could use hangers to attach them vertically to the wall. If you cut them shorter than the glass rods it should make it safe and easy to remove the rods when needed

The glass rods are about the diameter of a pencil and 13-14" long. I didn't come up with a good solution - instead decided to limit the quantity I take with me on the road and store them in a drawer with some dividers. Glass is pretty heavy, so it's probably the best solution, although it makes me sad to leave so many pretty colors at home.

Thanks for your efforts in brainstorming. I use PVC pipe at home, cut about 1-2" shorter than the glass rods and nested/stacked on their sides. Looks sort of like a honeycomb.
