Buying in the USA as a Foreigner

I just called the Tax Collectors Office here where you register vehicles. All you need is the title and proof of liability insurance to put a vehicle in your name. The seller, if it's a dealer can handle it easily.

Wish I had known this before basing ourselves in New York! We are committed to a 'work away' position for the next week so we will make the decision if we head to Texas or Rent soon.

Stephen, I don't think many states have the restrictions NY seems to have. When I talked to the woman at Department of Motor Vehicles she seemed surprised by my question.

I told a bit about what you ( I told her I knew you) were going through in NY and she said "Honey, this is not NY". Anyway, the offer stands, and you should also check neighboring states.
