@ArtW My first thought was to build the flatbed from wood. I've seen it, but not with a camper on it. I have seen some flatbed work/farm trucks on CL in my price range, so I might get lucky once I'm ready to buy.

It's not a really big deal, just that I am also using the truck as an art studio so I thought it would be nice to have a bit more room for storage.

Not a thing wrong with that idea, I like it!
HDR, can you expand on using webbing to build a camper onto the back of a truck? Maybe my little Ranger has more potential than I give it credit for!

webbing in frame construction means to reinforce the joints with plywood.  usually the piece of plywood looks like a triangle that is attached to the joint.  it can however ever be any shape that fits the build.  this is very common technique in boat building.  here's a pic to give you an idea.

plywood webbing makes a extremely strong build for fairly light weight.  highdesertranger

Ah, I was thinking of doing that with my carport over my travel trailer, just didn't know it was called webbing, thanks for the explanation and the visual aid

People in New England replace their rusted toyota beds with pressure treated wood beds...
