Well, I was looking to fabricate some suspension stop for the rear of my truck when, basically checking stuf out, I found this Third leaf up, cracked in half and starting to 'migrate' out. No choice kids, time to do what I do best.. screw around with **** til, eventually, stuff is more-or-less fixed.
Well none of the U-pull wreckers around had a matching spring pack, and the spring shop here wanted $70 for a leaf that I'd have to cut down anyway. The hell with THAT!! So, I headed off to Pickapart and, after some major hassles, managed to get out most of a spring pack (couldn't get the main.. too bad).
Looking at what I had, one if the springs looked to be 'good enuf for government work', so there she be. Started tearing into it this morning, after the coffee and meds kicked in.
So, after a lotta cussin' and obligatory skin sacrificed to the machine gods, finally got stuff apart, the new spring inserted, and ready to bolt up. Don't have any pics of much of the process, cuz I was covered in grease & grime, but it was a lot tougher going than many would expect. my grinder and 3/4" drive sockets+ long breaker bar sure came in handy.
Okay, I wasn't allowed to post more pics, so here's the continuation.
Got it all bolted up 'n stuff and lookin' pretty damn good! % hrs of Willy's life down the tubes, but can drive with more confidence. Only cost me around $50 (which includes gas) and I've got at least one spare leaf I be carting around. ..Willy.
