Has anyone been investigating the Boondockerswelcome.com web site? Would think this would be a great tool.

I have been on it since it started, I have had a few campers stay at my place, its enjoyable, I showed both some sights in the area, not at all necessary though. You can just provide a place to park and not socialize if you wish.

I haVEN'T crossed my state line to freedom yet but will use it when I can.

Wonder how this will compare to a paid site with AIRBNB.com which I hope might have hookups and maybe a three night limit.

I don't think it's comparable. The fee to the hosting site goes toward their time and service, I don't begrudge anyone that. It's sort of a match.com, you see where you need to go, what they can deal with, size, kids pets and so forth. You email back a few times to find a comfort level so to speak.
I will never have to pay because I was in when it began and I offer my yard.
There is never to be money exchanged, truly boondocking. There are people who offer city parking as well.

ive had a few inquiries when i had a space, but they fell thru for one reason or another. im also a founding member. I think if you can find a spot where or near where you want to go its definitely worth it over a pay campsite. some even offer hookups. i offered house outlet and water hose hookup when i lived in a chalet.
if you dont travel much and have no space to offer (lower fee i think), it might not be worth it tho.

im stationary, but stay on for the future when i plan to travel.

they use a ebay like rating system to help filter good hosts and guests which i think is a good idea.

I joined way back when it first started but we never used it. At that time it was free. I've thought about joining up again but when I've looked at the site most of the places were a little too far off of our routes or had some restrictions that made them unsuitable for us. I think it's a great idea though!

I did join Harvest Hosts which has a similar set up with a yearly fee for accessing the information. The site lists wineries, farms and attractions that have room in their lots for RVs to stay overnight. Of course they would like you to purchase something so we only stay when we want to buy their product. The hosts are usually close to main travel routes because they're in a touristy type business. So far we've really enjoyed our visits.

We joined it recently, looking forward to connecting w some of those folks.
