Bob, did you happen to stop in at Arches NP? I'm at Capitol Reef and thinking of heading that way and to Canyonlands NP.

No I sure didn't:( ...enjoy the trip.

Camping for a few days in Pike National Forest, only $10 a night with the Senior America the Beautiful Pass.  Uncrowded, water, trash and vault toilets available.  Right at 9,000' and great temperatures.

Decided to take a trip up Pikes Peak since it's only 9 miles from my campsite.  The Transit handled the ascent/descent of the 14,115' fantastic.  Awesome trip.

Well, if you find yourself driving down 45 into Houston this winter, let me know and I'll buy you a hamburger...

7:39 video of trip from Aspen - Twin Lakes CO., over 12,000' Independence Pass

13:00 minute video, Up/Down 14,000' Pikes Peak CO.

Thanks for the trip up and down the peak, Bob! I want to drive that someday, but I'll have to sedate my honey... big fear of heights so I think those drop offs would be a bit much.

Still remember my trip up and down Pike's Peak and it's been 30 odd years! Would love to do it again!

Queen, your honey won't even make it to the bottom of Pike's Peak if drop offs are a problem. We had one of our group sitting on the floor of the van so she couldn't look out the window. My partner at the time drove up and back but refused to even think about going to the overlook at the top and handed me the keys at the bottom so he could dive in to the beer cooler..... :D

OTOH, I got tired of taking the tunnel outside of Denver and started using the pass instead because it had drop offs and mountain curves and switchbacks....oh my!

^^^ AT, we went up Mt. Lemmon near Tucson and thought she was going to have a heart attack. I'm the one hanging over the edge as far as I can. :D

TxJaybird....not only are they ugly, they have a mouthful of teeth and every fin has is very sharp.  Not my favorite fish to catch for sure. :)

We usually refer to them as a double ugly.  Agree with Bob, not my favorite catch.  Sounds like you are on a great trip.  Like you I have never lost the "Awe factor" even after 22 years.  Ken

It was a nice clear day in Palmer today so decided to head north and see if Denali was visible.  This is the south side, the pictures I previously posted were of the north side.  Majestic for sure.

We spent 3 days at the new State campground, K'esugi Ken Campground, which is near Byers Lake.  I can't remember a time that I say the mountain for 3 days with no clouds around it.  It was the best camping weekend of the summer.  I am glad you got to see it.  As a long timer hear you know how rare it is.  I really appreciate this blog.  It is pointing out things I need to remember to do.  It is to easy to get in a rut and go the the same places that you like.  Ken

Alaskan...I know what you mean. This summer I got to see many places that I didn't have time or get to when I lived up there. BTW, Wonder Lake is where we flew into to start our climb up the north side of Denali in the early 80s.

Check out some of the videos from the mid 1980's Race to the Clouds and Moki dugway in Utah.

Camped bankside on Lake Skiatook in Oklahoma.  Only $5 a night with my Senior America the Beautiful Pass.  It’s an Army Corps of Engineers Site.  Beautimous area and at present no one else in sight.  Can stay 14 days, right now I’m paid for 8.  Life is good.
