Visiting Terlingua Texas has been on my Bucket List since watching the documentary series on the murder of the La Kiva Bar and Grill there. Well I took the plunge and headed south on Tx 118 to get there today. It was a beautimous mountain desert ride with elevations exceeding a mile high in a few places. VERY scenic. I made a 3:14 minute video of the 80 mile trip.
Here's my GPS showing over 5300' elevation.
The one big thing I noticed is that people live in all kinds of dwellings on their own land here....RV's , trailers, big storage sheds (tiny house) etc. This picture was taken in the vicinity of the La Kiva.
I have traveled much of your current route.
I boondocked in the rest area where you got the pic of the Pecos bridge and hiked a little way down the cliff to get a better view of the Rio Grande-Pecos confluence.
RVP.. I was going to boondocks in the rest area myself but 3 others with lots of noisy furry friends were already there. Funny you mention goats as there was a stretch that I saw many and wondered if they were domestic or wild. Really enjoying US90. All the best to ya.
I toured Terlingua Tx today, actually the old town. Lots of residents in all types of RVs and shelters. Here's a bus conversion, parked on his own land, as are most. I did a 2 minute, 35 picture, slide show for those interested.
Terlingua also held its 50th Annual World Championship Chili Contest, held every November.
Drove Tx170 today, paralling the Rio Grand River for most of 67 miles. Sensory overload with all the beautiful scenery. The GPS gave me a hint on the type drive...1 3/4 hour travel time to cover the 67 miles. If interested in a scenic and fun roller coaster ride, I made a 2 minute time lapse video of it.
Girls out exploring the Texas landscape between Van Horn and El Paso Tx. More accurately, Sheba is. Reba got a burr in her paw at the last stop and is avoiding all vegetation this time.
