I need 800 watts of use for 30 to 45 continuous minutes use with just the multicooker I want to use on my trunk cigarette plug in my wagon. I use use about 13 to 14 A at once on my front cigars. Plug almost all the time.

15A fuse is shared for front and trunk.

2013 Prius v wagon

???

1. Biggest inverter that would work on my trunk fuse knowing the above information?

2. Is there a way to add an additional fuse onto the original trunk cigarette plug?

3. What size cables and fuse should I ask for when getting prices to add on an additional cig. Plug on the other side of my trunk?

4. What's the biggest inverter my car can handle being hooked straight up to regular 12v battery?

5. What's the biggest inverter a 6v additional yellow top batteries can handle?

6. Same as 5 but with 2 6v yellow top batteries?

Solar questions and details to come much later.

Thanks in advance.

#1 do not use ciggie plugs, dangerous at even half that current flow, unreliable in all cases.

Put in Anderson connectors, in this case the 30A rating.

Find out the wire gauge running to your existing port, but likely you will need to run two heavier wires right back to the source batt.

First buy the inverter and confirm it feeds your appliance(s) OK.

Use an ammeter to determine the max load you want to pull.

Download the Blue Sea wire size app. Measure the wire's distance with a string along its actual path.

Assume 90° insulation single wire, enter time length, double the distance above.

Figure how much voltage drop the inverter can handle.

The app will tell you the gauge wire you need.

You need to use 6V batts in pairs to get 12V minimum.

For this sort of heavy usage, you really should use true deep cycle batteries.

Duracell FLA 6V golf car batts are tremendous value, Batteries+ or Sam's Club.

The question as to how many you need depends on your AH usage per day, and what combinations of charge sources you use to get the bank back up to 100% ideally every day.

Your alternator from driving is unlikely to contribute more than 20-30% of what you need.

If depending on solar you need to prepare for several days of cloudy weather.

Ideal is frequent access to shore power. Next best is a portable genny combined with solar.

Uh, John

PRIUS.

That is a whole different ball game.

I will try to look this up tomorrow.  Tonight I am not thinking clearly.

There are a number of Prius dwellers posting on here.
The answer might be in that section already.

What, you assume from the username?

No need for any battery bank then.

Wire sizing howto still applies, also do avoid ciggie ports like the plague.

If you need to pull 800w, you will have to wire it to the prius's 12v battery. 800w is ~67 amp at 12v, so use a 75a fuse on the wire from the battery installed as close to the battery as possible.

I dont assume anything.  I read the orginal post.

You post some excellent information on here.  This time you missed a detail.  NBD, sometimes we all do.

Yes, missed that. Wonder why OP think s/he needs to carry more battery banks, maybe for portability to a tent?

I'd love a Prius towed behind on a dolly, nice bank+genset built in, plus running into town leave the main vehicle all setup.

I know several Prius dwellers who have a 1000w inverter directly wired to their 12v accessory/starter battery (using Anderson Pole Connectors, appropriate wire size and fusing).   I don't do that myself.  But, if I needed just 40 minutes of 800w power at a time, that's what I'd do.  If you turn your Prius on for 40 minutes to run your appliance, the engine will only come on very intermittently.

Brent has house batteries to keep his compressor fridge running for long periods of time when his Prius is turned off.  He's using lithium ion now.   Check out his posts here as Oberneldon.

Hope that helps.
