Best way to estimate cable lengths...

I have seen ready built battery and inverter install kits.

And I can see the reasoning behind having them built by the fine folks at:

The price is of course dependent on length, and of course I would need both the positive and negative at the determined length.
So double the cost...

If I go the build it for me route, what do you all suggest is the best way to estimate how long of a cable do I need?

I have used 1/4inch rope to simulate the cable then measure the rope.

rope or vacuum hose. I like vacuum hose because it mimics the cable better. also add a few inches. highdesertranger

I used them for 2/0 battery cables and inverter run. I used a length of 5/8 hose to find the lengths and sweep of curves. Genuinedealz measures the cable to your length, then crimps the lugs. You will gain a inch or two. Also, I find the heavy duty lugs are a bit heavy for most connections. The battery end could be the exception.

The tinned marine wire that GDZ uses is not really all that flexible despite the fine stranding. Do not expect 2 gauge wire to bend within a 6 inch radius, 4 awg within a 4 inch radius.

Contemplate a stiff garden hose bending around 90 degree corners.

Get some cable clamps/hold downs with a rubber coating.
