Best way to estimate cable lengths...

I have seen ready built battery and inverter install kits.

And I can see the reasoning behind having them built by the fine folks at:

The price is of course dependent on length, and of course I would need both the positive and negative at the determined length.
So double the cost...

If I go the build it for me route, what do you all suggest is the best way to estimate how long of a cable do I need?
 
rope or vacuum hose. I like vacuum hose because it mimics the cable better. also add a few inches. highdesertranger
 
I used them for 2/0 battery cables and inverter run. I used a length of 5/8 hose to find the lengths and sweep of curves. Genuinedealz measures the cable to your length, then crimps the lugs. You will gain a inch or two. Also, I find the heavy duty lugs are a bit heavy for most connections. The battery end could be the exception.
