Best cell phone plan deal of the moment, Visible by Verizon?

You won't find a case in the US. If you can wait from China, it will take a couple weeks or so. I bought this and it actually works pretty good. I wouldn't count on it protecting a severe drop, but clumsy drops seem ok. I did order one from China and waiting on it too. I've had my R2 for two months. After about a month I received a package from Visible that contained a case and screen protector. I don't know if this will be the case for recent purchases.

Sorry, but this is the first case that I've used so I have nothing to compare it to. The case is made of a rubber like material and it has buttons that match up with the phone buttons. It also has openings for the camera, mic, earphone, and USB.

The problem I have with Verizon is they don't have an unlimited plan that includes unlimited hotspot.   Once you burn through the 15 or 20GB you are throttled down to 600k bit or worse.   That is why I think I will like Visible's 5Mbit unlimited hotspot.

I am not convinced that article is fully correct. I can stream video at 720p 1080p on the phone and via hotspot. Hotspot is not throttled to 5mb/s . The article from Gizmodo was updated and that is wrong

You should know that your data is always de-prioritized so if you are on a tower with some congestion your data speeds can be pretty abysmal.  My experience over the past month in a limited area is that rural areas are good for data speeds where in moderate sized cities the speeds are almost unusable.  

Still, I'm keeping it as a backup to my at&t hotspot and T-Mobile phones.

     When I moved to Klamath Falls, OR, (pop 41k) from Sacramento, CA (pop 500k) I found that my high speed prepaid Verizon that rocked in Sacramento was actually slower than Metro PCS's data speed.   In fact it was unusable.  i switched to post paid Verizon and the speed returned.

Whether or not this is a good deal depends on where you use it.

Exactly as well as when you use it.  At home in north central Oklahoma I can occasionally muster 15mbps but also experience less than 0.1mbps.  I'm in Missouri this week and am lucky to get 1mbps where I am even with a decent signal.  I'm probably going to cancel after two months.  Just not working as a third option for me.

I used Verizon for close to 3 years this is my experience -
new Hot spot and used Samsung phone

when I first got Verizon Highest amount Data plan

First 3 months No throttling - worked well - i used 130 gigs a month
only 2 locations it did not work -

after 3 ish months Throttling Started -
5 months Throttling was after 20 gigs used
would be throttled to 600k - 24x7 -
close to useless -

I was trying to get highest data amount - I need it -
bill went from $75 at first to $130 when I quit Verizon -

at the end I was paying $130 for 20 ish gigs of fast data
then 600k for rest of month - usually 27 days of slow

Price to me was not important- I need it to work

Verizon employees lied to me every time I talked with them -
Bla bla bla - excuses etc - got old

then tried US Mobile - pretty much Exactly as above -

Customer service was pretty bad also -

Now I am in a city and got TMobile -
in city works as good as Verizon ever did -

Im pretty sure its going to suk out in the sticks
but have not tried yet -

one area is a dead zone has Zero reception -
so I got Tmoble Cell Booster -
did Not work at all -- Zero

After I read paper work in detail the FREE
power booster Costs $400 if not returned -

the whole cell booster seamed pretty sketchy -
sales person told me After I ordered Booster
the last thing they said - it MAY Not Work

So Tmobile gives U box with Blinking lights
that does not work is now worth $400 to Tmobile
Pretty slick scam -

Verizon gives you good data for a few months
then slows it down till U ether Accept it or Quit -

Welll, not entirely true. I have been just beyond where I could get a cell signal without a booster (phone showed 0 bars) and I was able to get it to 2 bars with the booster. Couldn't have gone much further though. Cell signals definitely have a finite range. With enough antenna, a lot is possible. Generally the higher the gain, the farther you can go.

Wifi is usually a lot shorter range than cell signals but a guy set a wifi record of 237 miles using off the shelf parts. https://www.wired.com/2007/06/w-wifi-record-2/

yes but there was a signal or you wouldn't have been able to boost it. I was referring to areas where there is no signal. where there is no signal there is no signal to boost. just because your phone showed zero doesn't mean there wasn't a signal, the meter on phones aren't very accurate or sensitive. highdesertranger

I totally agree with you. I have generally tried to stay where there is a signal before I became housebound in case the kids needed to reach me about the wife. The booster just lets me get a couple of miles further. A directional antenna high in the air works well. When I can get back out, cell signal won't be so important.

I've been using Google Fi for years. Before that I used Ting which was about the same. Before that I used Verizon. Verizon always had the best service no matter where I went but I couldn't stand their bills, about $90 per month. I currently pay $25/month but I don't use much data right now.

I've been reading a bit about Visible on here and then looked elsewhere for some info and decided to try it out. I grabbed their R2 phone for $19, how could you go wrong trying that? That's lunch and a couple of beers. The phone came today and I am very impressed by the size/feel of the R2. I can't speak for the overall quality yet but that is the perfect size for me, width and thickness. This sounds like a bad ad.

I'm going to keep Fi going for a couple of months and compare it to Visible. I lose service in a lot of places around me and I am hitting the road this fall so it will be interesting to see how it goes.
