My other fav is to cook some basmati rice in the cooker, and wait till the rice is boiling, add a can of drained black beans and drained canned corn and let cook... add tapatio, some peppers, chopped onions ..

Throw onto tortilla, with shredded cheese, some sour cream, and Viola!!! cheap "vegetarian" burritos...

When you say cooker, is that a pressure cooker? We don't have one, but if its feasible and will work on a Coleman stove, we will pick one up when the time comes.

Yellow or white rice with canned black or pinto beans hot with melted Colby, Monterey or queso fresco. Top it all with salsa. Easy peasy and mighty tasty!

For added gas removal while soaking beans add a tablespoon of baking soda to the soak water.

There is no problem leaving the beans out over night while they soak. Honestly, I'v let them go as long as 48 hours and they were fine.

To get all of the food combination benefits of rice AND beans you do NOT have to eat them together merely eating them in the same day.

Whole spices should be dry roasted in the pan BEFORE anything else is added. Cooking for just one I have taken to using a 1/4 tsp measuring spoon for portioning spices.

A short list of whole spices that I would recommend
Fenugreek
Cardamum seed
Fennel seed
Cumin Seed
caraway seed
Star anise (I buy broken pieces since I cook in small quantities)
Black Pepper corn
Sesame seeds
Poppy seeds

Man that spice list looks awesome. Thnx!

No. Its just a cheap $20 rice cooker I bought from K-mart.
Looks almost identical to this:

Load rice and water in... press the lever to cook... Go drink a beer until you hear the "Click" of it going to warm mode.. Add beans, corn, peppers, and whatever else you want.. wait 10 mnutes.. VIOLA!!! It runs on 110V, so you'll need shore power, or 12v through and inverter to make 110V.. (Its 300watts at 110v) Takes about 1/2 hour so as long as you have more then 30AH in batteries yull be cool...

Ive made rice on coleman stoves before, Just set high to boil, then as soon as its rolling, turn down to simmer on low as you can go on the stove. go 2-5 minutes then turn off, wait 15-20 minutes, your good.
