I am giving you guys the 2 minute version of how I lost all that weight and got my blood sugar under control as well as my bad cholesterol levels.
Here it is, it is real simple. Having said that it will not be easy for some. You will definitely need to have some willpower.Okay?

  • Cut out all sugar right this minute, do this for at least 2-3 months.
  • Learn to read packaging labels to see how much sugar is in something, especially avoid high fructose corn sweeteners
  • Stop eating out of the box during that no sugar period and be careful after that period if you go back to packaged foods
  • If prescribed by your doctor, take the diabetic drugs like metformin. He went to medical school, not you. Do what he says! Note: All of this advice is NOT FOR DIAGNOSED DIABETICS. If you are diabetic, do not keep reading, just do exactly what your doctor says.
  • If you are prediabetic like I am, consider buying a blood glucose meter and learn to use it. Eat by your meter.  Learn what spikes your sugar and avoid those foods.
  • Weigh yourself at least weekly, I do so daily but that's just me.
  • Get out from behind the computer or off the couch and move! For any weightloss plan to work, you need exercise! Period!
  • Marry or live with someone who is a gourmet cook! Oops! How did that get in here? Did someone take over my keyboard or was that a Freudian slip? Actually I owe a lot to Luisa, my longtime girlfriend, who took her cooking up to a whole new level for me with this. I seriously doubt I could have lost 10 pounds, much less 60, on my own.
I am sure that I have forgotten something but the information above is enough in my opinion as one who has done it and is still doing it, to lose a lot of that spare tire that may be around your waist or off those big hips. The critical thing here is that you have to want to. You have to believe you can do it.

Did you guys notice a big thing missing above? Exactly, I did not mention anywhere above that you must count calories. You don't have to count calories! Don't even go there!

Look, I love this site and don't want any problems. So this advice is given freely and with good intentions. Forget my e-book. Remember the advice above. Do it, lose the weight, and come back and tell us about it.

Now go forth and stay away from all that sugar out there!

Some good advice there.  I don't agree with the part about always following your doctor.  I used to work in the morgue at Providence Hospital in Southfield Michigan.  I cut up people who followed their doctors advice.  Some would have been fine if they had just stayed home until they felt better.  They came to the hospital, and we killed them.

Of course cutting out sugar also means no cake, pie, donuts, candy, or soda.  I'm going to start today.  I joined Anytime Fitness yesterday.  I've worked out twice now, and I'm sore all over.

your not a true member of this site until you have been warned at least 3 times,it's in the forum rules somewhere in the super fine print

yep, sugar will kill you but the good news is that if you reach health levels you can then eat as a treat once in a while anything you want

and from my view if you want be on life long prescriptions and manage the issue not cure it, do what the doctor says

Regarding the advice on doctors that is for those who have been diagnosed as diabetic. Now some may choose to ignore their doctor but I won't, not when it comes to diabetes. I am not willing to bet the farm against that opponent. Not when limb amputations or blindness, for example, might be the end result. That healthy fear and respect is what started me down this road in the first place. My doctor did the talking and I did the listening, for once.

The sugar ban is also about getting into the routine of healthy living and practices, in addition to the detox factor. I specifically mention the first two or three months. I don't mean forever. Well in one case, I do. HFCS should be avoided at all costs. Just my opinion and I am sure the food packagers that put it in virtually everything they box up for sale disagree vehemently; but heh, it's an opinion subject to argument and discussion.

I totally agree with you on the avoidance of HFCS

a diabetic since 1995 i listen to everything my dr.'s say, think it over and then do what i think is best for me. it sounds crazy but i "listen" to my body. it tells me when i need to sleep, take meds. or that i need sugar or carbs etc .......... and if i haven't listened beware.......tired and hungry ain't a purty sight on a texas gal!!! i really think the info about the e book and weight loss was done out of kindness and not monetary gain....so THANK YOU texasjbird

I have no idea what you guys are talking about. Can somebody explain what I'm supposed to be mad about then maybe I can get mad!! :)

I HAVE quit sugar, as of a week ago on the 1st.

Oh sure, you say, we all have started New Years resolutions, only to quit within the first 3 weeks.

OK, I'll elaborate a bit for you...

I quit coffee (my love ) back in September. THAT was tough!!...but I did it, and haven't slipped at all. Now, it's not a problem. (but I still love that smell!!!)

but in quitting coffee, I knew I was going to quit eating sugars after the first of the new year. I also knew that there was NO FRIKKEN WAY that I was going to go through the Holiday season without eating chocolate (my 1 true nemesis!) ...so I knew I was going to have to wait until then. (I've always been a huge chocolate junkee!)
(I'm glad I did, because during the holiday cookie box exchanges between friends and family...at one point we couldn't use our kitchen table due to the boxes and boxes of cookies, treats, and fudges heaped on it!!) :p
One friend, after we had already gorged ourselves on chocolate already, gave us a 3lbs box of chocolates!!!! UGH!!! (my wife brought it to work and her fellow employees gobbled it up!)

lastly, I'm not going to be like some complete anti-sugar Nazi...meaning that I'm mostly just not eating sweets anymore, and I'm going out of my way to avoid it too. but it IS in so much of the foods we eat, that I'm sure there's some that I'm going to still consume.
But, I know that what I'm doing is good for my precious body, and I feel good knowing that I'm taking these steps.

I'm also a person who walks ALOT, and have been jogging, swimming, exercising, and doing yoga for many years too.

Am I going to live longer for all this??? Probably not.

but I don't wanna die in a hospital bed, and don't wanna miss out on all the fun things I can do while I'm still alive!! :D

Be good to your body. It's the only one you get.

hey Patrick you should watch the movie Sugar it is a real mind opener good on you for quitting coffee, I use a substiture called Bambu can be bought at some health food stores, I like the plunger kind it comes in instant as well the plunger kind is more expensive but stronger so you need less, like half as much for the same strength good luck with your sugar thing I try not to eat sugar but he only way is not to have it around. Xmas is too hard

Don't forget Carbohydrates. My son lost 50 lbs, I lost 30 lbs. and wife lost 25 lb. mostly by watching carb consumption which includes sugars. We defiantly avoid HFCS. We also walk daily and ride bicycle when weather permits. We live in the NE where the summer season is very short and we ride the Rails to Trails. My son rode 2,400 miles, I rode 700 miles, and my wife rode 150 miles this past summer. My son was having some early sugar problems and it is completely resolved.
This is just a bit of Humor from the/ take it for what it's worth department./ Do Not consider this as my advice!
Posted in a Homeopathy Drs. office.
"I take metformin for the diabetes caused by the hydrochlorothiazide I take for the high blood pressure which I got from the ambien I take for insomnia caused by the xanax I take for the anxiety that I got from the welbutin I take for chronic fatigue which I got from the lipitor I take because I have high cholesterol because a healthy diet and exercise with regular chiropractic care and superior nutritional supplements are too much trouble" .

I so appreciate this thread, it has inspired me.  I've stopped sugar as of yesterday.  I drink coffee like a fiend, but I don't know why I shouldn't.

coffee dihydrates you, it is bad for the environment, it is sprayed with lots of chemicals, unless you drink organic, some people claim joint pain diminishes without coffee, some people sleep better, pee less, less acidy stomach symptoms. to name a few good reasons. there are meant to be some benefits too but my coffee drinking wife can't name them.

Good replies all. I agree with the jump off the sugar crowd. Having said that, yesterday at the casino buffet, I had 4 desserts. Some behaviour patterns are hard to break :s

I think I'll have another cup, McDonalds gives unlimited refills!

I would look to see who paid for that science, you can find all kinds of information on the internet as well in all our schools and media about the benefits of milk when there are none what so ever. buying anything from a food chain that cares nothing about people or the planet they live on is also another reason for to stop drinking coffee or at least from those kinds of crowds, we have the power to change what people feed us if we want.

It's the calories too. I have lots of fruit and it still spikes the sugar.

Can someone explain the symptoms of pre diabetics ? Hurt - bruised my thigh during a move and the bruise is still there after two weeks.
