Anyone know their New Year's Resolutions yet?

My New Year's resolution is to stop acquiring pets!  We have four cats and two aging dogs, and seems like no matter how hard I try, stray cats end up becoming pets once or twice a year.  I love my fur babies but if my desire for a mobile lifestyle is ever to become a reality (a few years from now when I retire), I need fewer of them to worry about.  I could never "get rid" of the ones I have but as they leave me I'm trying really hard not to take on anymore.  I also have to convince my husband to get interested in a traveling lifestyle, at least part time.  Or else leave him at home to take care of the pets?  :D

:s  To live a fearless life from this point forward.  In a long conversation with myself { I think Queenie was evesdropping} I came to the conclusion that many of my decisions are based on the fear of the unknown.  So now I've traced this back a few years and am trying to decide what caused this shift in me.  Up until recently I just did as I pleased.  Tired of Texas and missing friends in SD I pulled up stakes for the 2nd time and bought a home a 1,000 miles away.  2yrs later Ky here I come then AL after 2 more yrs passed.  Now other than declining health I'm trying to determine why I don't go into my "pack my shit and git mode" as I do when I get to wanting to meander around the country.  Even a modest income never stopped me before now.  I know a few of the reasons and intend to address them as I'm able too.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!   :D

Save more money! I'm weak when it comes to passing on new electronic gadgets. Dont even mention tools! Im a tool hoarder, and worse I have bad OCD with new tools having to match my old ones. Example... I loose a 10mm socket and its replacement has to be same. If not, I feel driven to buy a complete new socket set. I'm not alone with tool ocd, Garage Journal Forum has hundreds of others, who are what I believe enablers. [emoji20]

More Discipline is my new years Resolution. [emoji123]

I have vowed to become kinder and more mild-mannered. Re-establish relationships with two of my older kids and not be so quick to anger.

Show more patience with people...

My New Years Resolution is to finally get to my last years resolution and go back to the more minimalistic lifestyle that I started van dwelling with. In the four years since then I've kinda drifted away from that. I've been especially bad at controlling my urge to collect tools. I love tools.

My resolution is to not make resolutions.
Wait,,,,,,,,,?????????????????
Scratch that!

My last New Years Resolution was to never make another New Years Resolution. That was thirty-four years ago when I was eight years old. I have never liked the notion of waiting for a special occasion to make changes in my life. If I see a need, why should I wait?

I understand the symbolism of the New Year being a time for a fresh start. I just don't happen to agree with the idea.

I agree with you 100%.

Love,

Jess.

Oh, come on, LOL. It is not really that the new year is a symbolic new beginning. Rather it is that we can put off adhering to our resolution until the 1st! In other words, it is permission to be "bad" until the end of the year (this is especially true of resolutions to eat a more healthy diet, right?). :p :D

My resolution is to get my truck ready, liquidate my extraneous belongings and be ready for road life by RTR 2017.

I am still keeping the resolution I made years ago not to make resolutions.

Mine is to try and buy whatever I'm looking for "Made in the USA".  Seeking out small family owned companies when possible.  As well as shopping at small local family stores even if what i'm buying is made in China, I can at least support the local family.  Not the tax evading corporations and multi million dollar salaried CEO.

Matt:
I came into this thread all prepared to give a pithy, smart ass reply. And then I read your post. It's actually genuinely inspiring. Damn you. Now I have to go away and think of a real answer.

Queen:
That's either a pretty funny joke, or an interesting state of mind.

After 40 years of 'my New Years resolution is to not make any New Years resolutions' (which I have actually kept!)  I am making one this year:

  • I want to drop 30+ pounds and increase my fitness level in 2017.
Since I retired I have not been as active as I used to, so I put on the pounds, can't hike like before, and have lost strength in my upper body.  I want that back.

To save money and get out of debt so I can get on the road.

Start downsizing. I have way too much stuff. If there is any tips, let me know.

Ok, after I respectfully read everyone else's resolutions I will contribute mine. But first I want to express how impressed I am with "Every road leads...". I generally try to do the same thing but he reconfirms how beneficial it is in so many respects. We buy so mindlessly right now.
Anyway, my News resolution started a couple months ago and will likely be life long...drum roll please...I will no longer participate in political conversation. I never really did to begin with but I'm pretty much completely done with it now. As a matter of fact, right now, as I type this, I'm listening to music from Youtube with my ear buds drowning out the four "adults" in the kitchen vehemently debating politics. Such an utter waste of time.

As a side note...and this may not belong here, but Bob just did a video where he somewhat suggested reinventing ourselves. One of the things was to have a "child like" mind in the way we approach things. Well, when I was a kid I was pretty damn happy, and discussing politics was never part of my childhood. Theres my proof!! hahaha

I've been making yearly goals and then tracking my completion for the last 5 or so years. I'm in the process of drafting my goals for 2017. Here is my current draft. I'm sure I'll change some things as these are really my initial thoughts. I need to quantify some goals, adjust dates, and then probably do some prioritization (eliminate some)

(All of these represent an improvement compared to where I currently am on them)

FITNESS/HEALTH
Cardio-Vascular - Run <6:30 mile by July
Fat: <10mm by end of March (I use a caliper and measure at a certain spot on the side of my stomach, ~2" above the top/front of my hip bone)
Strength: __(?) pullups (Pronated grip, hands 6" wider than shoulder width, medium, controlled speed)
__ 1 leg, free standing squats (?)  (I don't work out at gyms so I can't just use Squat X lbs)

(Actions: continue regular exercise wherever I am (I tend to do less in cities). Start full strength training regimin in January. Document all exercise)

FINANCIAL
Spending - Spend < Income (Dividends, Pension growth, hobby income)
Increase Hobby Income:
- Current/old source: INcrease to >$150/month by April
- Blog Income >$50/month by November
- Start some form of Photography income(?)

CREATIVE OUTPUT
Writing:
__(?) blog posts by November
___(?) blog traffic by ____

Photography :
- Start sharing photos somewhere more objective. (Where? 500pix? A sales site?)
- Try to sell prints?

INNER HAPPINESS STUFF
Meditation - start regular practice by April
Lucid Dreaming - Get to 2 or more per week by August
Core Life Values - decide/capture them by __, then re-evaluate 2017 goals
