I've heard stories from people that as you get older, you more appreciate the ability to stand up in a vehicle, hence a high-top van versus a low-top. I currently have a 1995 Ford E150 Econoline low top roof conversion van.

I'm not interested in raising my roof at this current time, but I'm just wondering if anyone else might have had their van roof professionally replaced with a high-top version? If so, what does it cost?

Also, what do you do about the paint job? Can you order a roof-top to match your current vehicle color? Or does the raised roof-top come in white and needs to be painted to match your vehicle?

Maybe when I'm in my 60s or so, and if I really feel the need to stand up in my van, I just might try it. But will the high-top conversion really allow me to stand fully upright? I'm about 5'10" tall, would a high-top roof conversion allow me to stand completely upright? I've been inside a couple used high-top vans in the past, but were not quite high enough for me to stand fully upright. But my GF who is about 5'7" was able to stand fully upright in the same van.

Just thinking out loud for now.

Thanks, Casey

You wont be able to stand up in a normal conversion van, but yes there are tops that are tall enough for even a 6ft person to stand up in.

Fiberline is on the west coast and seems pretty popular with people whom convert vans.. I like the bubble top they have, but they also have a full flege camper top that is huge.

http://www.fiberine.com/GVMR_Inc/Full_Van_Size_Top.html

On the east coast I've seen http://www.cyclevan.com/ whom are in NJ. They seem to be the best bet in the north east.

They actually have a few vids on youtube one showing how to install a top..

As far as price the only place I've seen prices was at http://www.discountvantruck.com/vantopsraisedroofs/vantops.htm They seem to go from $1200 to 2k. However no info on cost to actually install.

They make different height tops. Im 6'4 and have been in vans where even i can stand up. These are more like the big square tops (like on Bob's book cover) than the aerodynamic little tops on stuff like Mark II conversion vans.
