Hi,

I have never owned an RV. I am looking at Vintage Toyota RVs, I'm on a fixed income, I have no clue, where to shop for RV insurance, and what coverage to get? Do I tell them I'm Full Timing? or would that matter?

Thanks everyone.

I feel like a duck out of water, but, I always have.

Your experiences and wisdom is very much appreciated.  Sincerly,

Pam

PS. If anyone knows of a Toyota RV good condition for sale in CA please pass it on.

Thank you again.

Insurance companies do treat things differently if you're a full timer. There's additional coverage on the RV similar to homeowner's coverage which, if I recall correctly handles your personal effects in the event of a catastrophe, or if someone is hurt in your RV. Your broker should be able to give you more details. Mine helped me and didn't put me with a company I had issues with in the past.

I hope you don't mind I changed the color of your font because I could barely read it. I have no idea about insurance in California, I am getting out of CA I know my insurance was much cheaper in Arizona, like 1/2, registration too. since all the Toyota motor homes are older vehicles insurance might be liability only. highdesertranger

Another great reason to buy a truck camper in California these are considered "cargo"

Thank you, I'm in CA. I plan on getting out of here ASAP. I will have to initially insure here. (I think?) So, it's better to insure FT?  Are there any specific RV Insurance Companies better than an other? Or, do I go through who I have my car insured by? I haven't asked for a quote yet, because I don't have the rig. I'm preparing myself for when I do.
I appreciate your input. TY

Oh, I'm getting out of CA too! That is the plan, I just know once I get the rig, I need to insure it, trying to cut corners just like everyone. I don't mind that you changed the color of the font. I finished it off. Thanks for your reply. I still don't know who to insure the RV. I wish, I didn't have to register it in CA or insure it here. Everything is insanely jacked up when it comes to pricing here.
TY for your response. Much appreciated.

I thought about that, but, would have to get the Truck and Camper, more money. Which I don't have.
Thanks for you, input.

I don't live in Ca but I would start with whoever you are using to insure your current vehicle.  If you don't have a current company I guess you'll just to have to start asking friends who they use.

A few ideas, honest, not judgmental ideas. The Toyota RVs haven't been made since the early 90s. If you are on a fixed income I'm not sure one of them would be a good choice, there will be a lot of maintenance expense. Second look up registering and insuring your future RV in South Dakota. There are several companies who provide domicile services and everything that entails in that state. I don't necessarily recommend this company but it's website is very clear. http://www.americas-mailbox.com/

I just in the last few months got rv insurance through progressive. I went with them mainly because they were able to do a stated value policy for my old airstream. I also found out that for my car insurance, when the trailer is being towed it is covered under the vehicle policy.
I think the policy was just under 500/year.

It isn't quite the same comparing travel trailer to rv, but it may help a bit ?

Along the lines of this thread, i have some questions.

This is my plan. I would like to know what others think.

When i purchase my van i intend to insure it with Progressive (my current insurer of my car) as a resident of California - using my current residence as an apartment dweller.

It isn’t until i get to South Dakota and set up my domicile there (i will leave CA travel directly to SD) that i intend to declare my full-timer status to Progressive.

I don’t want to jeopardize my coverage or relationship with my insurer but recognize that there may be a point in time when one becomes a full-timer - especially as far as my insurer goes. Is it the time i intend to be a full-timer (when i leave CA) OR when i arrive in SD and become domiciled there.
